Witch: Got someone from outside the sport to demand the rule book is adhered to. Mate: Right! Don’t you think sport should abide by the rule book? Witch : No, we’ve circumvented it many times. Mate: Ok, weird. What’s gone on? Witch: They are signing a new rider. Mate: Who and who have they dropped. Witch: Robert Lambet replaces Max Fricke. Mate: They can’t just drop a rider willy nilly. Witch: Max got injured. Mate: Not too badly I’m guessing from your reaction. Witch: Broken sternum, cracked shoulder blade, bruised lungs, sprained shoulder and concussion. Mate: Wow, how is he now and how’s his family coping? Witch: Don’t care! Mate: Er, really. Was he a weak link in the team, is that why you’re so bothered? Witch: No, he’s their number 1, in fact he’s the second best rider in the entire league. Mate: Right, so his injury replacement has a higher average, I can see why you’re upset. Witch: No, the replacement is nearly a point less. Mate: You do know you’re saying this out loud. I know you like to troll the socials, which isn’t cool by the way but what you’re saying to me is just wrong, very wrong. Witch: Great friend you are, you’re the troll and a prat, you’re just looking for attention, I hate you. In the time that I’ve been attending Ipswich they have been the opposite to cheque book speedway. One thing Chris has done is turn a well run club in to a highly professional outfit. You only need to look at the way they are all kitted out even down to matching club chairs for the pits. As for Tom I think it was clear he wanted to move to Ipswich & who can blame him wanting to be part of the most professional outfit in British speedway. If only the others & the sport in general could match it. Oxford another example of this. Their “official” website has no mention of last Thursdays meeting with Ipswich, no preview of tomorrow’s meeting at Foxhall either. Amateur beyond belief. They’re not alone sadly, a few clubs have diabolical social media coverage. Sort yourselves out ffs!

Dirt or no dirt, I think the trick to a "decent" track (any track) is keeping the moisture in it, as soon as it goes dry, you're on a hiding to nothing racing wise. Back in the day you'd often see the water cart coming out after every race, just for a lap or 2, during dry periods to keep on top of the track. I think the blue groove appeared because it the inside of a track is never watered once the meeting starts, this seems something peculiar to this country as you never see this on the continent where they just flood the track after every 4 races. If the track doesn't have enough moisture in it from the start of the meeting, for whatever reason, the blue groove is inevitable.
Pinny
There is no doubt Guy Nicholls has ploughed decent coin into Ipswich but in all fairness, they had years of floating round at the bottom whilst other clubs were splashing the cash so can't really begrudge them even if they are spending big money. The side they have built looks ridiculous, the fact the top 3 are scoring so poor by their own standards and they are still winning is ominous for the rest of the league. When Doyle and Emil get going it will take some team to stop them.

Tru 7 group Guy Nicholls companies not only sponsors Ipswich, but Sheffield as well, which make his contribution to British speedway even more impressive. I would imagine that Ipswich are the main benefactors as the company is based in Ipswich. Both clubs over the last 3 or 4 seasons have built good teams so he must be ploughing in decent money to both clubs.

He couldn’t believe he got it for a “song”. That isn’t the case now but that’s only due to inflation and rising costs all around. The partner sponsors are very good at Ipswich. Collectively they help hugely. Edited April 9 by Arch Stanton

It also helps if a track has some material on it to start with plus some more as and when needed, it also helps if you have a track man who knows what he is doing and has the tools to fully do the job. In recent years I seriously doubt Birmingham can fulfill any of those requirements, and I have watched several meetings there over the last few years. When clubs learn to prepare tracks properly to entertain paying customers with decent racing then they will get better attendances, race suits, mechanics in matching overalls, 2 minute clocks on the centre green, electronic scoreboards, video replays in bars, transponders, superheats etc etc are all very nice but supporters generally come for the entertainment, most of which is close meetings and good racing. Until the basic product gets it right this sport will always be second rate. Its interesting to hear that Leicester and Ipswich have both taken steps to improve their racetracks, it really is about time.
