Oxford v Ipswich 3rd April

Think people are getting a bit carried away after the mauling of a pitiful Belle Vue. Who hits 60 away from home in reality? Ipswich only won by a superheat there last year when both teams had the majority of the same riders! They’ll get more from Tungate than the 4 he got against Lynn. Emil was untouchable in the second visit last year though, 18 max and won the superheat as well.

Absolutely - the crash for Tai and what happened last year should make people check their somewhat wild expectations at this point! As its stands Ipswich are the favourites etc but lets not assume its all done and dusted yet. Thats said I would love to see them win it this year!

All things being equal and every club finished this season with the same 1-7 in which they started, I’d be almost certain Ipswich would be winning both trophies because it IS the best side put together this year. I’m not downplaying that fact or pretending otherwise. But the reality is there are always so many twists and turns throughout a season that can and often do, change the picture. Doesn’t have to be as drastic as last season either injury wise, an injury to a lower order rider can change things. An injury to Dan Thompson before he gets his official average without his 25% reduction would be huge. Who could possible replace him on his three and half point reduced average? That would weaken us badly. Same with Jenkins, nobody left on the rising star list could get close to replacing him. The chances of getting to the play offs with all your septet still in place is a lottery. You then have others who will look different come play off time through strategic changes when riders suddenly become available when the GP’s and Poland winds down. It’s small margins that can end up being very decisive.

With Brennan, Ipswich have two "number 5's" and with Ellis and King they have two more "number 3's" rather than having second strings...

A fantastically well put together team, even more so when you look at their excellent reserve strength where you have a "second string" level rider and a top level RS...

If they don't win the league this year, they never will...

I’d have said the same last year when we were a country mile ahead in the league. The best teams over two thirds of a season don’t always end up “winners”

As an assessed rider I know he can't guest for anyone until he obtains an official average, does that work the other way too?

Robert Lambert guested for Sheffield in 2023 as an assessed rider so it must be ok now.
Assessed riders do not get the 5% up lift on their home average.
Fingers crossed for a big big witches win here.

You’re basing that on Ipswich getting to September injury free. Realistically what are the chances of that? Every single Ipswich rider had a spell on the sidelines injured last year, every one of them. To go from that, to not have one missing would be some turnaround. That’s why I’d never touch pre-season odds on any team. If you’re gonna have a friendly flutter, do it on a match by match basis.

Last season they would still have had to go head to head v the Aces...

With a not too good record at the NSS, even with a full team...

With the Aces having NKI instead of Cook too....

This year, if they can keep that team together it should be a shoe in..

But, given the injury record of several of that team, you never know...

Should injuries strike though they will have some big averages to bring some very good guests in..

Wouldn't Oxford get the extra 5% as the home team, making 6.30 available for a guest?

When did this rule come into place or has it been there for a while?

Try as I try for the past 18 years of following speedway to keep up-to-date with the rules, I am finding it extremely confusing.  It does seem now that speedway is a simple sport which has been made complicated by all the rules!!! 🤔😵‍💫

Am I the only one who thinks this?

I'm not a fan of the extra 5% rule tbh. It's supposed to help the home team as most riders are better at home, I don't see why that's necessary.

Like you say, why have so many complications to the rulebook?

I can’t see a link for the stream. Any ideas ?

No worries, see if this helps:

Home page of Oxford Speedway

click the three lines for the drop down menu and click on live

Click on ‘Watch’ for the fixture tonight and follow the register or log in details and payment method accordingly.

hope that helps!

Lambert didn't have an assessed average in 2023 ...
