It's a massive massive loophole someone CAN (and I would as a team manager) take advantage of in a very important situation i.e. the Play-Off Final as an example. Expand My thoughts are as follows, if it is such a big loophole, why has it not been closed for 30+ years? The alternatives are either less value for money for the fans (3 rider races) or create more unnecessary cost (travel costs for an 8th rider who may not ride all season). When a rule is brought it to "fix" a problem the same rule can cause another problem. For example the 7 day suspension for missing a match due to a non speedway injury was brought in to stop riders say miss an Exeter away match, but carry on riding elsewhere, by saying they weren't well on the day. But that causes 2 problems, 1) riders who are genuinely ill for one day miss a week's worth of fixtures, 2) could lead to a rider riding when not well to avoid this, then causing a crash as they weren't strong enough to hold on? Same thing could happen if the RS couldn't be replaced, would they go out when not fit if it was the difference between winning the league or not. Anyway looks like we're not gonna see eye to eye on this one, which is fine, would be a boring forum if we all agreed all the time. Expand It's not 30+ years the top league has been running National League level, none foreign riders at No7 is it? Isn't it already less value for money having a reserve half a lap behind the rest in some heats? It may as well be 3 rider's only? The 7 day rule is absolutely necessary for all kinds of reasons. Missing a meeting then riding the next day used to go on way to much. Not sure any of the RS rider's are the difference between winning & losing. Most losses are from the failures from the top 5 of the team. We've had exceptions with the likes of Lambert, Bewley & Brennan but these types don't come around often. When they do, they're not at No7 for long anyway. Being a King's Lynn fan, whose club has never won the top flight title, I'd 100% withdraw the RS after heat 2 in a Play-Off Final. SaddlebowRoad
now that heat 8 is protected the situation is a bit different imo the potential for manipulation is greater and just because something has happened for 30+ years is a poor argument to keep the status quo if better can be done imo Edited April 3 by SaddlebowRoad
