Belle Vue v Ipswich March 24th KOC

Recommended Posts

Well done Ipswich.

good match racing wise to start the team season. And it goes the way every season does for us. A home loss. We didn’t even look like winning this one.

People will blame cook and norick but lidsey was the concern for me.
cook we know will be better away and norick had a nightmare but that shouldn’t happen again.

great to see Thompson starting the season so well. Ipswich got a trump card at reserve.

Bewley was class last night, carried on like last year. Racing alot more aggressive. Needs to ride like that in GPs and he will put up a challenge.

Quick wasn’t he? The fact he wasn’t well either made it even more impressive. Enjoyed that battle with Cook in heat 14. Got done by Cook, never gave in blasted back in the blink of an eye. Good to see. Seems to have been around a little while now but unbelievably still only 20! Leicester dropped one almighty bollock there I’m afraid.

Ipswich just far too good and that’s the reality. Belle Vue and Sheffield are their biggest challengers but Sheffield will run in to the same problems. Sheffield’s top four more than a match for Ipswich, but the bottom end of the team isn’t. Ipswich have strength all the way through.

Aside from the top two who were very good, Belle Vue offered very little.  Cook & Zischke must be allowed a few meetings to settle, but Lidsey, Blodorn & Mulford should have done more.  Brennan performing so well bodes well for GB, kept Kurtz at bay and good battling point in his first ride.

I personally don't think you could expect more from Mulford. He beat Jenkins once & lost to him twice, who else in the Ipswich team is he likely to beat? The fact he beat a stronger RS once is a positive for me.

Maybe you’re hoping your rising star will be beating his opposite number two out of three times rather than the other way round on his home track. He’s done enough laps around there now although as you rightly say, Jenkins is a better rider so maybe a little harsh. Again you’re right, there’s nobody else in the Ipswich team he should be beating really.

Jenkins used to ride at Peterborough and in my opinion is good on the bigger bowl like tracks. There is a video of him riding in 2023 for Peterborough v Sheffield and he is blasting round beating a lot of supposidly better riders.

If the riders were closer in ability, then yes you'd hope Mulford would beat the RS 2 out of 3 times.

Unfortunately for Belle Vue's chances I think he's one of the weaker rising stars.

a decent meeting to watch, enjoyed it from start to finish...by far the best racing track in the league.

Bewley and Kurtz are a dominant force, but how many times have we seen Kurtz looking like a world beater but only to disappoint as the season goes on?

Brennan looked good..

Doyle and Emil, looked off of it to me.

King rode well all night.

Zischke looked a million dollars when gating but looked awful when at the back...hope not but he could be the modern day Todd Wiltshire!!

Both teams will look at the positives from the meetings, fully expecting both of them to be there or there abouts come the business end of the season.

But home track advantage should negate that to a degree and be more of a leveller. I’m not saying he SHOULD be winning two out of three of their clashes, because I agree with you Jenkins is a better rider. But on your home track you should be hoping he’ll get the better of his opposite number more often than not. I’ve seen Mulford have some very good rides at the NSS and beat some good riders. Pretty sure he won a heat at Foxhall last year beating Doyle of all people? Then again my memory is absolutely terrible these days and I may have just made that up 😵‍💫

Kurtz in particular is improving in that department IMO. You need to have more strings to your bow than being very good and dialled in around the NSS and that’s where both Kurtz and Bewley have been found wanting. But they’ve both started to get more consistent and better away from home and that’s reflected in the averages. Wouldn’t be at all surprised to see that improvement continue this year and Kurtz topping the Premiership averages. Only question marks are the GP’s and whether that takes his eye off the ball here a little.

Great result for the whole team, Doyle and Emil must be happy that the pressure is slightly off them to constantly get double figures. All teams will have highs and lows so I won’t get too excited. Kings Lynn are a dark horse IMO and I can’t wait for the derby days!

I expected a bigger crowd at Belle vue watching on TV, interesting to see what Ipswich gets at home, I am aware England played so maybe some watched football instead on TV.

Anyway… speedway won last night! Great races and really good passing. Good luck all teams for a great season!
