Will speedway disappear from TV following Eurosport merger?

Speedway is unlikely to be featured on the TNT Sports channels most likely to be buried on the Discovery+ app or channels like last year.

I think that's a bit of wishful thinking. They're not going to pay for OB facilities and not show it on their main channels on a Monday night when there's no football on, and correct me if I'm wrong but TNT don't show any Monday night football anyway.

Interesting to see how few fans are aware of the one hour highlights programme on Quest that is free to air on the week we have a live British meeting. Also I have to say I prefer the pre pack highlights programme as it features a higher proportion of racing to waffle and drops dull races so would appeal to non speedway fans more.

Is it advertised extensively in the Star/programmes?

I admit I was not aware - but i think this is now part of the issue so many channels and you really can't keep up with who owns what channels and where TV shows are going to feature!

A good example of this is the Championship and L1 and L2 football highlights that have switched channels a few times over the years.

I no longer use my old sky box to view live TV although I still have it - i stream 99% of what I watch so i suppose Quest is yet another App I will have to get - thanks for tip - altho i wonder if that highlights show will run in 2025!

Edit: seems I can get Quest on the Discovery+ app

Maybe also it's because Quest don't show  it until midnight on the Tuesday

TNT SPORTS TO SCREEN PREMIERSHIP SPEEDWAY

Monday, February 17, 2025

BRITISH Speedway can confirm live television coverage of the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership will continue in 2025, with meetings to be shown on TNT Sports and discovery+ .

It was recently announced by Warner Bros. Discovery that Eurosport’s content in the UK and Ireland will be integrated into TNT Sports from February 28.

With the four biggest two-wheeled individual Championships – Speedway GP, Moto GP, World Superbikes and MXGP – in their portfolio, TNT Sports is the new home of bikes, and British Speedway now forms a key part of their offering.

TNT Sports will therefore become the home of the ROWE Motor Oil Premiership with, as in previous seasons, 18 live broadcasts including all six play-off fixtures and the British Final.

The live meetings will continue to be available on the discovery+ (TNT add-on) streaming service, whilst free-to-air highlights will again be broadcast on Quest.

This season’s live coverage will get underway on Monday April 28 when King’s Lynn host Oxford at the Adrian Flux Arena, live on TNT Sports and discovery+ .

Further details and the full list of the opening eight fixtures for broadcast will be provided in due course.

Quoted in todays PR that Quest will still broadcast a highlights package.

Why do the TV companies take so long to let fans know whats happening, I appreciate Speedway is not high on their sport agenda, and surely British Speedway must have some idea whats going on to keep fans informed. Thoughts.

Its dependant on two factors 1.  How it fits with other live sports shown across Europe or the world and 2. the availability of satilite time and therefore cost.

How are pensioners supposed to afford TNT?

It's £31 per month and lots of pensioners have lost their winter fuel payment.

Shame on Eurosport and the BSPA.

An interesting view as pricing is not down to either Eurosport (as legally it will not exist) and the BSPA.

Pricing is down to the bean counters at WBD European HQ.

Will it be edited highlights though... or just the last x minutes of the broadcast I wonder?

I will imagine it will be the same format as last season which was the highlights from the meeting; which in my opinion is the best way to package the sport to attract new fans.

Wow... 18 years since I have posted on here. So long without speedway in Exeter. I still watch and enjoy Speedway and was interested where it was being broadcast next year, hence my visit to the forum.

The reason I am posting though - I am a VirginMedia customer and get Eurosport as a part of my TV package. When Eurosport announced their closure, VirginMedia contacted me to say they were giving me TNT Sports for free until the end of my current contract as I was a regular Eurosport watcher (I didn't watch anything more than Speedway and Grand Tours but that was enough to qualify it seems).

Not a long term solution as my contract expires next February, but gets me through this season and to the end of the current Speedway TV contract. Thought others might be interested, as it might be worth contacting VirginMedia to try and get this 'deal' if they have not been offered it.
