First time abroad

Recommended Posts

Morning all,

We've just booked for a couple of GP's abroad, Landshut and Prague, and as the title says, it'll be the 1st time abroad for a Speedway GP.

Was just wondering if anyone has any hints or tips.. We're flying to both, car hire from Munich, and staying in Landshut. Flying to Prague, and planning taxi and tram, as we're staying close to the track.

Thanks in advance folks, and all the best

Prague is a wonderful city but try to avoid the prague 1 zone which is very expensive

I think for any first time visitor it's essential to go to the  Prague 1 zone . So much history to see ,Prague Castle, Old Town Square, Charles Bridge to name just a few. Anyone who doesn't go there is wasting their trip to what is a wonderful city.

Exactly wonderful city. One word of warning though Prague is the pick pocket capital of Europe.

It certainly is, & has been for many years.. Over all my years of visiting the city I have seen so many incidents , after a while it becomes relatively easy to spot the criminals as they all conduct themselves in a similar manner.

I stayed in Prague 1, right next door was a bar 60k a pint, that's £2. I also found a bar just the other side of Charles Bridge that was good value.

at the airport get the 59 bus to Divorka Station, than a tram to the centre. Mustek underground station will take you close  to the Marketa, then maybe a 15-20 walk from station to stadium

seniors have free public transport in Czech, but if challenged must produce ID

Prague is one of the most beautiful cities I have been so much history, but I have to agree it is problem with the crime that go'es on. The weekends are a big issue as it has become a  popular Stag/Hen party venue.

If you enjoy speedway & sight seeing I would recommend the Golden Helmet weekend in Pardubice & incorperate the Tomicek Memorial at Prague on the Monday

Always have to be very vigilant wherever you go but Prague is certainly not top. Barcelona, Las Ramblas, Paris are the top two. As said, just be careful wherever you go. Wallet front pocket, rucksack face the front on route, look before you take pics on your phone. Apart from that enjoy. It’s the same in London.

As long as you don’t expect much racing action (it’s always much better when you’re there, as per Cardiff) you will still have a great time. Enjoy 👍

Thanks folks

Just returned from Prague again yesterday. It's a brilliant weekend. Best transport system in Europe.  Buy  a public transport ticket at the airport  from the ticket machine which is valid for buses,  the metro and trams. Airport to centre of Prague less than an hour. No need for a cab far too expensive. 24 hrs travel  costs adults £4.16 , 60-65 £2.08 and 65+ free travel. Marketa Stadium on the Green Line at Petriny metro station.

We're going again for the GP in a few weeks.

Last time I was in Praha was May 2012 for the GP where I took an overnight train to Wroclaw via Dresden for an Ekstraliga meeting. If I remember correctly you can take tram no.22(Bila Hora) and get off at the Vypich stop and then a short walk to Marketa.I'm led to believe that tram 22 is a good way to see the many tourist sites in Praha. One recommendation is going to this Monastery Brewery in Brevnov:- https://www.klasternisenk.cz/cs/ (Brevnov Klaster tram stop). The beer and food in this establishment is excellent and very affordable(though it was 13 years ago and very probable/without doubt that prices have increased since then).Looking at Google Maps is Marketa Stadium is walkable from this fabulous hostelry👍Like a few posters have said on here is have your wits about you when in the tourist hotspots and go to Praha districts Zizkov,Vinohrady and Karlin to avoid rip off tourist prices.Have fun!!👍
