Cardiff GP 2025 Cancelled

Maybe the subsidy by from the Welsh tourist board has finished or been dramatically reduced to make the event unviable.
Local businesses are going to suffer unless some other event gets booked in.
Also it shows the way not to address the problem of declining attendance is to shove the prices up way beyond inflation.

BV need to take heed - no guarantee of the meetings being a sell out as both will be on TV & should price tickets to pass on the benefit of their fixed costs now being spread across two meetings instead of just the one intended.

I,m told the contract with the Principality was up.

All this garbage about it alway's rains at B/vue pathetic childish comments for one we all no the track has one of the best drainage system in europe !! and it's not got a roof well 98%of GP'S are run on tracks with no roofs !! only cardiff and the polish warsaw had roofs !! every chance all  the rest could get rained off ? also and fans should have made sure a refund was available to them or get insurance to cover them for hotels because you never know if you have to cancel for personal reasons there own fault for not checking before booking !! also Manchester city centre is on a 20 mins walk from staduim taxi 10 mins 2 massive football clubs also 2 visit for staduim tours maybe ? use you're imagination plenty to do !!

Nice rant but Gorzow and Torun both have roofs. And yes, i'm aware Torun isn't in the GP this year!

Conspiracy theory, They kept Cardiff on the calendar because its good to attract sponsors, once the sponsors signed on the dotted line they switch Cardiff for Belle Vue.

I understand the SON lost a lot of money, ok a GP will be more popular but I think in order for Discovery to make some money they needed to do 2 crowd pullers, it was always the plan in my opinion. I will put money on it being 2gps at belle vue in 2026 as well.

put you're tissues away deal with it !!

Deal with what?

Sorry if you missed the point. I'll try and explain once more, then I'll give up...

Cardiff was criticised for being 'rip off' because hotel prices were hiked on GP weekends. Whether it be Oasis, The Wombles, or Speedway is irrelevant. Manchester hotels have hiked their prices because of demand in the same way, so is no different to Cardiff or anywhere else & I accept that's how it works.

If you can't understand that, I'll send you my tissues, as you probably need them for something else 😉

Maybe they felt the renegotiation of the contract was  a formality?

And then something changed?

A price increase and then a "tactical walkaway" possibly..?

The break even figure for costs is around £71 per ticket based on ticket sells of 7000. Double it to two events of 7000 then that drops to about £50 per head.

This shows how much sponsors and TV money are subsidising the sport. Grants for Cardiff were about £200k a year from the Welsh Government.

I seem to remember Manchester Council loaned up front £133k to allow SWC back when the stadium first opened.

Hosting SGP isn’t cheap. Just because it’s moved from Cardiff many of the costs haven’t changed.

Think they'll have had relatively cheap use of the Stadium on long term contracts. I personally think the Stadium want more money and the reality is that Gigs draw in full capacity stadiums and more economic benefit to Cardiff and Wales now.

With declining Rugby crowds that will be a major factor.
