First signing for the Kent Eagles in the National Trophy.

Ben Morley

He is 30, with 14 seasons experience!. Surely he has developed as far as he is going to at this stage.

I think their should be a combined age limit on the NDL or years experience in the case of some of the riders who came late to the sport through a motox background.

Well either somebody has dropped a bollock or the set up and structure of the NDL Trophy is going to be very different to NDL, which would completely ruin the objective and aims of the new concept.

Morley's last CL season saw him finish on a 4.40 GSA with Plymouth.

He's ridden many seasons in CL and in PL

Surely the rule has to be if you're illegible for NDL you're illegible for The Trophy

Id wager the first one. Nice peoples but green promotion. Would be a whopper of a clanger if Morley was announced and ineligible. Even more so if like previous teams they had Kennett and Ablitt lined up too.....Nick Laurence should be fine though 😁

Must be a different rule for Trophy then....

No fault of Kent to take advantage if so but I'd imagine a few will be fuming who may have not been allowed same dispensation in the NDL.

More likely that the rules have changed, given the BSPL press release said that the Regs for NDL and NT woukd be the same.

Also, on the NDL thread there was a query regarding people like Luke Harrison now being ineligible as he achieved a Championship average over 4 - the response being that he had been told he would be eligible

So it seems the rule has been changed then

The rule was, if a rider had ever averaged above 4, they couldn't race in NDL. So even 3 points riders like William Lawson could no longer ride in it. Rules must have changed to allow Morley & Harrison to race in the development league, just wish they'd announce the rule changes.

I think it would have to be a ruling on matches ridden, age shouldn't really come into it.

Personally I don't mind Morley in the development league, he's giving the better riders someone to aim to beat. i.e if you can beat Morley you're ready for the Champ.

If the top NDL riders ended up being Scott, McGurk, Hodder, Garrad, Perry & James, all riders who couldn't reach the minimum 2.00 Champ ave, how would NDL riders know when to step up?

The problem is the near sightedness of the rules and the way they are switched about rather than commit to them. It was obvious to many several seasons ago that the dilution of the NDL would lead to riders on inflated averages but are not ready to make the step up to the next division. Sadly CL promotions saw the NDL as a viable threat to their business model and rather than attempt to compete they squashed it and are now paying the price.

Good signing for Kent though.

I assume Rhys Naylor will be in the team now as well.

Rhys, Ben and Nathan Ablitt would be a good heatleader trio. Along with Jack Kingston, Nathan Hargrave, Sam Woods and then whatevers left.

Apparently the rule change allows ONE rider with a CL average of between 4 and 6 points

That rules Ablitt out. He has stated in the Speedway Star today that he will ride NDL for Scunthorpe / Sheffield but he would not be eleigble for Kent if morley is already signed.

Could it be that Kent Eagles have had to soothe the Kent faction by signing Morley which mans they can't soothe the Eagles faction by having Ablitt of VJ-F. I guess they have to calculate if their supporter base is going to be roughly 50/50 or more one than the other? It's a fine balancing act they will need to get right.

Logically there is no reason why they cannot attract regular NDL crowds for 600-700 from those 2 established supporter bases especially for a restricted number of Events.

Thinks that will be fairly close. Potentially swap Woods for Connor King and Josh Couzins for Nathan Hargrave. Don't know if Josh Warren still has bikes or interest but he would be a good final piece......not much of an Eastbourne flavour to the side though.
