Franz Zorn will be aiming for a third European title in a row tomorrow at Sanok, but has only recently recovered from a foot injury sustained in Sweden in January and has only ridden one meeting since.  He'll still be a favourite, along with Jimmy Olsén for Sweden, super-veteran Aki Ala-Riihimaki and new Finnish champion Max Koivula, Luca Bauer and Max Niedermaier for Germany and Lukas Hutla who has had a few wins recently including the World qualifier in Sweden - this might be the most open European for several years.

First heat begins at 3pm UK time tomorrow, you can buy the live stream at http://www.tapesup.tv - I will be on commentary.

What a spectacular and incident-packed meeting - I had great fun on the comms, many thanks to all who tuned in.

Full results here - not only is Lukas Hutla the first rider from outside Russia and Austria to win the Euro title, he is the first Czech to win any major international ice racing title since 1974!  https://live.baansportfansite.nl/event/911/european-individual-ice-speedway-championship-sanok.html

Enjoyable weekend in Inzell, although the absence of the Russians does affect the spectacle. That said, apart from the veteran German pair, most other participants put in a shift and had individual moments of glory. Quite a few heavy crashes but thankfully everyone walked away. Have to wonder if Franky Zorn will be retiring following his "flight" after hitting Jimmy Olsen's bike, while avoiding the fallen rider. His gating is still better than the rest but he was being easily overhauled too often. Always the entertainer and great for the sport but maybe time to think of himself.

I was pleased to see my FB buddy Jasper Iwena finish as runner up on Sunday. Unlike Zorn every point was gleaned from the back with calculated manoeuvres choosing when to overtake. Capacity crowd on both days was good to see too.

I actually feel like the absence of the Russians makes it more of a competition, that it gives most of the top westerners a reasonable chance.

That said, the champion stretched his legs on Sunday and looked fairly unbeatable.

I loved being at Inzell, the atmosphere is awesome and I can't wait to get back next year. Even booked ridiculously expensive flights to go to Sunday at Heerenveen to see the finale.

Like you say, Jasper Iwema was great on Sunday. I always used to feel he just didn't have it, but a couple of machine issues aside early Saturday, he was brilliant. Totally delighted for him.

Anyone know of any other ice speedway forums with a bit more chat than this one? Like getting blood out a stone most of the time here!!
