Batchelor would be the perfect choice to replace Nicholls, and alot closer to his base.

Can't see him willing to take a part time spot if he has offers elsewhere for a full season.

If they're expecting to bring Nicholls in, it's more likely someone who wasn't planning to do Champ this year imo

Nobody believes that the rising star order of pick was real, riders have literally ended up where they wanted/was agreed by all clubs.  No way Leicester choose to keep Hagon over Flint.

It is what it is, riders will tell different people different things.

This is what confuses me, why have a rule voted on by the clubs, which all the clubs agree to ignore?

Why not simply say every club has to use an RS & not mention order of picks?

I agree, and Hilly is correct, riders will inevitably end up where they want to go. Jenkins has all but admitted that Birmingham “picked” him but he refused to go there. Kings Lynn also wanted him but he refused their advances also, the Lynn fans will tell you that. Rob Lyon was openly telling them that Jenkins would be targeted for their rising star berth.

An Oxford fan talking to Jenkins, at Oxford, is obviously going to be told what they want to hear. He’s not going to tell an Oxford supporter that he didn’t want to be there is he. The lad wanted a return to Ipswich (and has stated his reasons for it) and dug his heels in to get his move.

Jenkins is arguably the strongest rising star on the Premiership list, there is absolutely no way on earth that THREE clubs (Birmingham, King’s Lynn, Oxford) all ignored him and left the fourth choice club (Ipswich) to seemingly win the lottery. Nobody believes that surely.

The draft picks are a nonsense, no rider should be forced to ride anywhere and I’m personally glad that some have called that out and got the rides they wanted. But I agree with you 100%, why they’re still pretending that this stupid draft order picking is a thing and playing the supporters for fools I’ve no idea. “Big changes” for 2026 apparently (yes I know we’ve heard that before) so I expect this to be dropped this time next year.

But an Ipswich fan definitely isn't going to be told the same thing, right?

Jenkins cut his teeth at Foxhall, doing many many laps after meetings before signing for Mildenhall. There’s a few reasons he wanted a return. Sharing the pits with a couple of world class riders has obvious benefits. Secondly, he started the season poorly and by his own admission, fully expected the old tin tac. He was supported, backed and helped through his early struggles instead of being discarded. That goes an awful long way with riders and isn’t forgotten. Thirdly, and the main argument put forward by the rider and club to get this move done, was sponsorship. He has gained some very good local sponsorship over the past 12 months that he’ll only receive whilst riding for Ipswich.

It wasn’t a straightforward move because the only way Jenkins was returning to Ipswich was via the rising star role because the number 6 position was always going to be taken by Dan Thompson. There was uncertainty as to whether he was going to be eligible for a return to the rising star list but once it was confirmed he was, Ipswich and Jenkins himself, put forward their case to remain at Ipswich which was accepted. Once that was settled, Jenkins wasn’t going to be riding for anyone else.

You can choose to believe that or not, but that’s the top and bottom of it.

Riss has a lower average than Nicholls, so if the teams average went above 40 when Nicholls is fit, might not be as simple as that?

As Nicholls won't start the season, don't think they can use a rider as a 28 day replacement like they can during the season?

Of course if the team is below 40 or Riss ups his average to 8.6+, no issue!

Special Dispensation due to Scott Nicholls long service to British Speedway, i'm sure fans of other teams would like to see him back on track asap, even though the rulebook would be flexing a little.

I don't need to choose to believe it or not, because I've spoken to him.... so know the truth. As you're involved with one of his main sponsors, I'm sure you could do the same instead of writing two lengthy paragraphs of hearsay. No reason he wouldn't tell you what he told me, I'm sure.

What confuses me is why the 'rules' re Rising Stars are being discussed on the Oxford Cheetahs 2025 page.

Don't need special dispensation, I'm sure when Nicholls is fit, he'd have plenty of teams looking to strengthen up.

Any easing if the rules would be to Oxford's benefit rather than Scott's I reckon.

I've heard that signings for all 3 Oxford teams will be announced over the next few days.

Does that mean the teams & rules for the NDL have been decided then?

Certainly be interesting to see who the Spires & Cheetahs have lined up, more question marks than other clubs have.

Catching up on my old Speedway Stars & here's some interesting comments by Peter Schroeck after the KOC semi final against Redcar, especially in light of Boughen leaving Oxford.

"All the boys got stuck in on Friday. Last time (there) we didn't have Ashton Boughen, who is phenomenal, he loves it around Redcar.

Ashton's background isn't from speedway but in the early training days I could immediately see that he had determination and a clever racing brain.

I don't take too much credit for it but I have worked quite hard with him and he is loyal, so I'd like to work with him for years to come. He's got some good guys around him in the team, which is important.

Having only been in the sport for two-and-a-half years, it's a hell of a task riding at No. 3 but he has been awesome over our last few meetings."
