As he's rumoured to have signed a contract in this league but has also stated in the past he can't do a Friday track(Redcar, the other team he's rumoured for) Oxford is a Wednesday track. TheWellBehavedWorrall
Gutted for Nicholls. There are so few clubs left that the probability of a heat leader spot becoming available mid-season is low. I’m hopeful he has a few years left in him. He'll be straight back in the Oxford team the second he's fit enough. Whoever is signed at 5 as a replacement (Riss?) will be well aware of that, and on a relevant contract I'm sure. He scored zero from four rides and in three of those races, he wasn’t far off being lapped. In the other, he fell. In April of 2024, I watched a 16 year-old Ashton Boughen ride for Oxford at Ashfield. He scored six points, including a heat win. In September of 2024, five months later, I watched the same Ashton Boughen score 13+1 at Ashfield, involving four heat wins and a victory over Chris Harris. Let’s not allow reality to get in the way of a good criticism, eh? I stand corrected, perhaps I am being harsh on Ashton, especially considering I've only seen him a few times in person. I hope he kicks on next year and starts pushing for that 3rd heatleader spot in the Glasgow team, would be really nice to see him progress, I have nothing against him whatsoever. I think I forget just how young and raw he is, when I'm comparing him to the likes of Drew Kemp, Anders Rowe etc... They've all got a fair few years on him.

Riss has a lower average than Nicholls, so if the teams average went above 40 when Nicholls is fit, might not be as simple as that? As Nicholls won't start the season, don't think they can use a rider as a 28 day replacement like they can during the season? Of course if the team is below 40 or Riss ups his average to 8.6+, no issue!

szkocjasid
Although Pickering, Brennan & Ben Cook all decided to leave the Champ, there's always a chance they'd be willing to come back for a short term deal if they knew Scott's likely return date?

Fair enough, the landscape is always changing as recent events have proved I.e. boughen and Nicholls.

Technik
With Scott Nicholls unavailable I think it wise that Oxford look at moving in a different direction & bring in some fresh young talent. I can't say who would be willing to come to Oxford but there are a host of potential starters if you look at Casper Henrikson, Adam Bednar, Mattius Polestad or Mads Hansen to name a few. I believe all would start on 5.00 so one in place of Scott Nicholls & another for Jody Scott should fit
Hilly
9 hours ago, Aries said: Ipswich had no right of retention on Jenkins because he wasn’t Ipswich’ rising star last year. Jenkins was back on the rising star list for 2025 and was available to Oxford before Ipswich due to the positions they finished in the table. So we have to believe that Oxford, having two Cheetahs riders available to them, chose a championship reserve on a championship average of 3.95, over their 3rd heatleader and clearly superior rider, on a 6.37 average? That’s not even slightly realistic come on. The fact is if Jenkins wanted to be at Spires next year then he’d be there as their rising star it’s as simple as that. Nobody believes that the rising star order of pick was real, riders have literally ended up where they wanted/was agreed by all clubs. No way Leicester choose to keep Hagon over Flint. It is what it is, riders will tell different people different things. After today, Cheetahs definitely have some decisions to make, including how they manage to get Nicholls back into the team when/if fit

lewy
Batchelor would be the perfect choice to replace Nicholls, and alot closer to his base.
