Special rules for individual events? (i.e. Olympique, Czech Golden Helmet)

Recommended Posts

Bit of an ignorant question here - I suppose all questions arise from some degree of ignorance - but I know about Wolverhampton Olympique's special handicap system, and the Golden Helmet of Pardubice having 6 riders per heat, so I'm wondering whether other meetings have (had) their own special rules to make them stand out? Perhaps you've even daydreamt up some hypothetical ones yourselves...

Wow! Where did they do that? I know they did a 6 rider 6 lap final at the chocolate race in Vojens, but 16 laps..!

There was some cracking racing to day at Pardubice  and a six man six lap Final. I thought and hoped Ryan Douglas would win but he seemed to tire a bit after four laps and Rasmus Jensen came storming through to take the helmet. Some very close races made it an entertaining meeting to watch.

It was a double grid. As I recall, the 4 lowest scoring qualifiers started at the tapes, with the 4 highest scorers starting further behind (maybe 30 yards).

I can't completely remember how the points worked, but I think it was something like 16-14-12-10-8-6-4-2, with the riders starting off the back getting 2 bonus points.

Huh... So day 1 points are given for overall standing, with placement finals of four for the bottom 12, where the winner of the 5-8 final joins the top 4 in a 5 rider final. Then on day 2 normal heat points get added to the total. Then the day 2 finals look like they begin with a  16 rider heat, which seems like a bit much... But what actually happens is that the bottom 12(?) have placement finals and get points based on the overall standing from those. Whereas the top 5 race four heats of five with a special points system, the points from which get added to the previous points total to determine the winner... Somewhat strange, I must say...

Daydreaming - 1 lap dash as that’s all that’s needed in modern day speedway at most tracks.

Stoke used to occasionally put on some one lap dashes as a 2nd "half"

It certainly does, however just commenting on the difference of normal regs and a certain event and how enjoyable it was this weekend. Just a bit of deviation. 😀

In the interests of space the Day 2 B, C, D Finals are all in the same column. Some years the top 4 go into the A finals along with winner of B final (like day 1).

What I find oddest is that heat points only determine which final you go into on day 1, but count towards overall totals on day 2.

Edinburgh used to have a 'De'il tak the hindmost' competition with five riders on a one lapper with the last over the line eliminated until one rider left. This happened until officialdom decided the could not run it as there were five riders starting from the gate and only four were allowed.
