So we're now in the situation whereby we have a ridiculous scoring system because the winner of the GP MUST have the most amount of points but that winner could have finished 10th in the qualifying heats!

Utter madness!

i'm sure BZ will adjust his strategy accordingly ,I can only assume it is aimed at him as the rest of the riders a fairly evenly matched IMO.

With the new rules Zmarzlik could've won the British GP, finished 10th & missed the semi finals, next year he'd still be in the meeting.

I've got a good idea. After the 20 heats, all 16 riders qualify for the quarter finals, the winner of each race goes through to the final. That way, the rider who finishes last after 20 heats can still have a chance of winning the Grand Prix. Sounds fair to me.

i was thinking of suggesting this to the powers that be, but decided against it as they will probably adopt it.

I'm not sure what they're trying to achieve with this change. On the one hand, I suppose it guarantees that the top scorer in the qualifying heats is in the final, with the first gate pick, which is fairer than having to qualify through the semis. On the other hand, going through 20 heats, just to eliminate 6 riders, seems a step too far for me.

If they want to award GP points based on finishing position, rather than points scored in the heats, perhaps they could go back to the old 'A' final, 'B' final system. Top 4 qualify for the 'A' final, 4 to 8 for the 'B' final etc. At least that would prevent anyone outside the top 4 point scorers from the heats winning the GP.

Who remember their presentation back in Torun 2021 where they talked about this "new era of speedway". One thing they mentioned was that they had no intention on changing the format. 'The format is already perfect'.
Here we are few years later and now it's completely ruined... good job.

Maybe it's time for the series to be called the Grand Prix Invitational Open, rather than the World Championship.

It's missing top riders due to the tail (PZM) wagging the dog (FIM / Discovery), plus the rules are now more fitting of It's A Knockout than a genuine World Championship.

And how about each rider being able to select a round where they can score double points?

If they want top two in final just have a semi with 3 to 6

One of the "pros" of the new system is that the last chance heats should be more exciting than the semi finals, because only the winners advance, so you will no longer get someone happy to sit on second place & protect their position.

I'd suggest 1-3 into the final & 4-7 into a semi final & only the winner advancing would be a better system.

I suggest they run 20 heats, with run offs for rostrum places. Make every point count and dump the never ending 'systems'...

Or you could have the leader cleared off in the distance with a great scrap for 2nd being pointless, 4th place giving up early.

Just seems to be a change made in the hope that Zmarzlik might miss a few finals to give a closer title race.

100% Spot on.

The new rules are utter garbage - If you want to open the opportunities up for the final ; do the Top 2 straight through and 3-6th place in Final Run off. This new format is dross !!

Having the Challenge after the final GP was such a success that they have changed it back !!!!
