Personally I think Cook will have a good season, push Howarth to reserve, where Kyle's scoring will then pick up.

But with Cook, you can never be sure what he'll do.

He will disappear before long

As a matter of interest... what leads you to think this?

For a start his Championship average is above many riders who have higher Premiership averages, such as: Sedgmen, Kerr, King, Worrall, Z Cook, Howarth, Wright & Zischke. So if he can beat them in the Champ, he should be able to beat them in the Prem.

Then he showed what he can do on his best day with 16 points at Sheffield.

His 2024 average for Oxford & Leicester was 5.40 (from 14 meetings). The reason he has a lower starting average must therefore be due to having low scores in final 6 meetings in 2023, which is not so relevant when judging his form ahead of 2025.

I also said "but with Cook, you can never be sure what he'll do" but there's plenty of reasons for Leicester fans to be positive imo

Why would he score more points at Brum? Over the season he would race against the same opponents be it at Leicester or Brum

Because of additional playoff matches possibly ( but by no means certain) more likely with Leicester and the in-season financial situation of Birmingham being slightly more likely to become unstable, if recent statements by the club are anything to judge by

But on a match by match basis I believe he would score more heavily at Perry Barr. It is a track better suited to him than Leicester's

Assuming the top 5 were locks then surely the first option would've been Antti Vuolas?

Sedgmen/Kerr wouldn't fit and Zischke (BV) Only other options that would have fit within the limit are the follwing.

Palm Toft (Injury Prone)

Mountain (Would've been signed because he's not rumoured for any Prem side)

Milik (Not committed)

Kemp (Been down that road already)

It’s looking like they’ll be no takers for Connor. Only The Aces have offered him any top flight pay since 2022 and unbelievably we get berated for doing so by the trolls.

The rest of the lions team looks Ace to me. System working, looking forward to your visits.

That's a fair summation... it's very much a gamble, a bit like Worky signing Batch last season, fortunately that paid off for them.

And there people were absolutely convinced he signed for Oxford. Some people really need to check there sources

Just checked and I've got Tomato Ketchup, HP, Lea & Perrins, Henderson's, Tabasco, Light Soy and two bottles of Tropical Sun Hot Pepper sauce

Tasty looking line up that. The last two in the list will surely provide some serious bottom end (eye watering) fire power if called upon to deliver, should the established likes of ketchup disappoint on the night.

Douglas final rider

Not really sure why the Lions team was announced over a number of days being as there were absolutely no surprises whatsoever in the team selection and 99.9 % of the supporters already knew the line up.

  • 2 weeks later...

Heard the news a couple of days ago that Malcolm Brown died recently (I think it was end of September). For those who don't know, Brownie was from east London and rode for the Lions in the late 60's and early 70's, and was a bit of a character. He went on to promote speedway in southern Africa, own night clubs, and worked as a singer on Caribbean cruise ships. He moved to Florida in the late 1980's I think.

I don't recall having seen any mention of this news on the Leicester Speedway website, but news sometimes travels slowly, and there were other things going on at the time. RIP one of the great Lions.
