Dudek is just an example but I agree they can be unreliable. Can't see Stewart Dickson taking many gambles again. Probably end up with Masters at 5 and the owners best mate Becker at 3..

If Dudek (or similar) is ever a consideration then Robert Lambert would be even a better one. That said, being world no.2 would make his pay expectations on the high side. But if one club could find a way then it well maybe the Lions.

Trouble is taking a punt on a rider, especially at the top end does your season if it doesn't come off as the replacements just aren't out there, you need tried and tested at the top end

DJW would be a decent shout if he truly is fit & wants to race (losing his GP spot may influence his attitude one way or another)
Sheffield may want to keep the Holders together so big Bro can keep Jacks mind on the job in hand.
Whoever the Lions do decide on, it would be beneficial to sign riders who are based in the UK or who are proven reliable to turn up and perform.

DJW, having made his fortune, seems to be in it for the fun these days and British Speedway seems to be able to provide that for riders, if nothing else. He can still smoke most of the rest of the league even just riding for fun and could just turn it on as and when needed

Was told a even two years ago we wanted him. Various sources say different things but I don't see him at Leicester how he's world number 2. Would love a GP star. Could really make the difference

You might need a GP star but you will probably end up with Fricke. 🙂

Just for a bit of balance, Panthers were without their No1 Ulrich Ostergaard and used R/R to cover for him, also lost Hans Andersen for both legs after his crash in his first ride of the 1st Leg at Belle Vue. Also Michael Palm Toft rode with a broken left hand for both legs after crashing against Wolves in the semi finals.

All great points to be fair, all though I don't think Ulrich would have kept that scoring up imo.

What relevance is this to Leicester Lions 2025?

With B'ham most likely to close, the best thing that Leicester can do now, is get the track sorted for competitive racing and there's a very good chance that attendances will increase....

The viewing at Leicester is far superior to PB(Perry Barr), but the racing is just as drab....Unless they sign 'Bewley' ! 😃

The only riders that would move Max out of your number one position that he apparently cannot adequately fill are Doyle and Kurtz.

Lions Christmas list.
1. Better number one.
2 The moon on a stick.

Max is a more than capable number 1. But as the lineup’s of the other three teams in this years top four proved, a strong 1&5 line up in heats 13 & 15 prove decisive. So rather than looking for a new number 1, a rider Close to Max should be on the Christmas list & a rethink on the balance of the main body of the team and choice of the initial reserve berths.

It's a conversation about having a strong top 2, which is linked to the Leicester discussion, follow the thread and you would know that.

From a team managers perspective , it would be beneficial to know the reasons behind his inconsistency. Because when he’s good he’s great & definitely look like he can build on his average. But then there’s the other side of his performance.
overall, he looks on the up, so yes he should be on the “possibles” list

I know where it started, but the wider topic discussing the various merits of top two etc ( BTW an interesting topic in itself) However unless being discussed directly in relation to Leicester it is off topic.

Except for the appalling lack of raking on the back straight terraces.

NO! I would have had him out mid-season! Watched his performance back at Leicester in the pay off final on Eurosport and he was riding like an absolute wobbler, shutting off halfway down the straight to turn into the bends!

I would have three back, poss 4 depending on the other riders available.

Fricke, Douglas and Hagon would be back. Fricke is an out and out number 1 despite what most Leicester fans think. In the regular season no other rider in the Premiership had scored more points. Douglas can increase his average further and Hagon will improve throughout next season.

The maybe is Becker as the Club has already taken the hit with his reduced average and then just pray its a warm September as he never rides well on cold or damp nights.

For the remaining 3/4 places I would go for a stronger second heat leader if possible and a better number 6. I'm aware that this would mean a weaker middle order but it is what appears is needed to win the league.

However the fly in the ointment could be rider availability with the Polish second division riding on Thursday. If I was Leicester I would swap to a Monday night race night, but I am unsure what impact this could have on attendance.

Of course Fricke should be back, despite my doubt elsewhere on this forum, I'm still pretty angry that he completely went missing during both legs of the final and I don't suppose he's too happy about it either, hopefully he'll learn from it and come back a better rider. He did after all contribute a hell of a lot in getting us to the final.

Douglas, meh, does a solid enough job, can't see him making a breakthrough, seems to have reached his level. Hagon, not a chance, he's completely out of his depth in the PL.

Don't bother me with the averages not being right
