Gilkes seems very professional and dedicated to the sport I can’t see him leaving speedway any time soon. If he has had an offer from Oxford maybe there’s a bidding war going on.

Could we get a Christmas miracle and Facundo Albin return on a duel Argentinian/British passport

No offence to Gilkes but why would clubs get into a bidding war over him? Especially Oxford who have lots of points to play with.

Bit of a mystery when he wasn't announced for Sheffield.

From what I understand at 6:00pm yesterday they were going to anounce the full team. At 6:05 after a phone call they were only in a position to anounce 6.  There had to be a quick edit of the video, which I thought was a great idea, and it was rolled out to the STAARS meeting at 8:00pm.  There was an apology from the management with a comitment to make an anouncement as soon as possible.  This makes me think that there was a verbale comitment from this rider and no contract signed. Just so glad to see my favorite "Picko" is back, but it is still a very useful team. Top four I would think. Just hope we avoid any major injuries.

I’ve heard Gilkes wanted too much money.

I can understand Gilkes position, not expecting to score as many points as last year in a tougher position, so wanting more money.

But feel Sheffield are sensible to stand their ground, plenty of options who will score much the same as Dan would.

I didn't pick up on that till months after it happened, can't believe the BSPL, referee or opposition team didn't notice at the time.

Pearson was able to guest because he had an established Championship MA (Green Sheet) of 5.02, which was subject to the 1.5 conversion factor.

There's nothing else in the Regs regarding guest riders to overrule that.

Indeed, looking at the assessed riders Regs, there's nothing explicit about what happens to a rider who is subject to the minimum assessed average and then moves from Champ to Prem, if their converted average falls below the minimum.

If you think that's wrong, e-mail the BSPL and SCB to let them know.

Also does Pearson have dual citizenship? I’m not sure but I thought he rode in the national league?

2024 rule book

010.2.2.

Any other rider with an established average, cannot drop below 4.00 in the Premiership or Championship Leagues at any time during the season.

He had an established average.

He rode in a Premiership meeting.

He dropped below 4.00.

It was at any time during the season.

There is no reason to check with the authorities as it is as clear as day when you read rule.

The point being made though is that the Regs you're quoting there aren't part of the Regulations for guests ... in there it says simply that a rider guesting in another league who doesn't have an Established MA in that league will be subject to the 1.5 conversion factor. There's no cross reference to the Reg you've quoted.

It's the usual SCB/BSPL ambiguity ...

I get where you’re coming from with a UK speedway slant on things.

From an everyday/everyman meaning then “Any other rider with an established average, cannot drop below 4.00 in the Premiership or Championship Leagues at any time during the season” means any other rider with an established average, cannot drop below 4.00 in the Premiership or Championship Leagues at any time during the season.

An argument of this sort is EXACTLY why we will never be taken seriously as a bona fide sport, unfortunately.

BTW, I call a spade a spade - discuss.

A spade is indeed a spade and should not be confused with a shovel. Other garden/construction tools are available but they have their own names.

(Tis the weekend so I'm in a funny mood) My favourite shovel is the Spear & Jackson no.3, there have been reports of handles breaking off but I still believe it to be a fine shovel. ...
