Eurosport, terrible professionalism.

Recommended Posts

Thought I had seen it all in terms of poor professionalism from TV "presenters"....but last night was probably the lowest of the lowest.

It is evidently clear that the person doing interviews in the pits is so far out of their depth it is brutal to watch...when a team manger tells you to not interview a rider yet you ignore his advice, you are left with an absolute cringeworthy situation live on air.

The same "presenter" has no real rapport with the riders and thus makes poor viewing, the incident with the obvious bad injury to Ben Cook is a example, instead of waffling and digging a bigger hole why not try and use some common sense and leave it to the likes of Scott/Kelvin/Ollie who have been in that position and know what to say and what not to say.

Last Monday night when Pickering was revving the guts out of his bike, why would you try and have an interview with him?

Thought it was poor last night and in general over the season it has become more and more of the same, how many times have we seen pit interviews that have been interesting and entertaining?...it needs someone from the TV side to have that rapport with the riders, a person the riders respect, something Scott Nicholls does and has with the vast majority of them.

Totally agree with you, thinking the same thing. She stands in the pits, with that stupid grin on her face, knowing not a lot about the sport she is involved in. The sooner she is replaced the better.

To be fair...

It is Eurosport...

And in most sports their production is pretty crap...

"And now we to go over to" (advert starts)...:D

They even managed to caption Kelvin's name wrong at the start last night!

Tatum became Tatam  :D

Perhaps he was miffed and that's why so many rider names were incorrect in commentary  - Jason Lyons even made an appearance somehow at one point!

Let's be fair here, it's not at all Abi's fault. She's just doing her job. The nonsense chat is usually requested from directors through an earpiece.

Man or women, it's irrelevant. Even Tatum & Louis (whomever is partnered with Kelv) chat absolute s#!+e most weeks.

The discovery team as a whole has no idea what the watching viewers want to hear or see.

Camera work, commentators, trackside presenters, the lot is absolutely dreadful.

Terrible to just out the Lass, just doing as she's told.

I agree - Abi in isolation isn't the problem

The general production is poor. Camerawork and direction is woeful a lot of the time.

As for helmet cam I can only assume it is named not after where it is strapped but actually after the person whom decided it is a good idea!

Agreed that Eurosport coverage is poor, but a disgrace to single out Abi, who actually isn't too bad.  I am not sure if this down to Eurosport or a production company, but the actual TV fcoverage is poor.  As others have mentioned the helmet cam/drone footage mid race is stupid, we lose half the action.  They are good innovations to the overall coverage, but use them wisely, mainly post race when showing replays from various angles.   The producer responsible for controlling the main camera coverage often pans in on the race winner and misses vital racing for the minor placings.    For commentary I like Kelvin, but I am not sure he is right to be the lead commentator, perhaps needs a broadcast professional with Kelvin as the expert alongside.   Scott brings a lot to the pit interviews, and often feels he is underused at times.

Yet again Eurosport proves that it is not about the budget at your disposal, but it is how you use it!

The brilliant BSN blows it clean out of the water on just a fraction of the budget!!

IF ..... Discovery had any intelligence they would say to BSN: "Can you provide us with the speedway coverage next season please?" - the end result would be a saving to their budget and a far better production!

I think Abi does a good job.   All the riders and team managers etc seem to be happy to be interviewed by her.

She's streets ahead of Charlie Webster. I would get rid of Nicholls who is full of himself and has pinched all of his

lines from Kelvin.  I agree don't know why they persist with the helmet cam.

BSN captures the essence of speedway and listening to Greg Blair is like sitting in the van with him on the way to the meeting,it’s fantastic,I don’t mind abi and her enthusiasm is to be applauded but Eurosport’s coverage is poor and they treat speedway like they don’t really understand the sport, which they probably don’t often missing the action and the less said about the onboard camera the better,Tatum, Louis and Nichols are ok but they don’t capture the in the moment element that speedway is, it’s rawness, down to earth nature,a working man’s sport, there is a saying in motorsport “all the gear no idea” Eurosport should have this as their moto, they have earned it, commentary is subjective, some you like some you don’t but that’s not really the problem with Eurosport

Couldn’t agree more - I wish Greg would do it permanently. I’m probably in the minority here but I can’t stand the women presenters not just Abi, Hayley Bromley too, not to mention the 2 other younger monotone models recently added to the BSN pits interviewing team - makes me cringe. Btw I’m a female!

I agree with a lot of this post but to blame abi for all the faults is a bit harsh. I have attended two meetings this season a league match in czestochowa with my polish partner and the british gp. I am coventry born and bred but live in north devon and have no track within a hundred miles of me. My fix is speedway and without eurosport i could not see the greatest sport there is. Kelvin may not be the best but he had the best commentator to work with Nigel Pearson rip. We should all be grateful for eurosport because sky sports got rid and then so did bt sport. I will be watching as a neutral next week because i love the sport i have followed for fifty years. Get well soon ben cook
