Glasgow 2025

Recommended Posts

I can't see why have gone for Max Perry personally, didn't show anything last season that was champ ready albeit coming back from a terrible injury. I'm never a fan of 2 2 pointers at reserve as a good reserve can turn a meeting. but 4 out of top 5 imo are capable of improving their averages and should be capable of winning meetings on their own.

Definitely more positive than last season if this is the side with 3 of the top British talents should be entertaining to watch at least.

If the above rumoured team is true you could easily set it up so Leon had an easier role. He's clearly a very promising rider and probably riding Sheffield rather than Birmingham in the PL will do him all the world of good, with all due respect to Birmingham. He is the highest averaging RS for a reason.

1. Chris Harris

2. Leon Flint

3. Ashton Boughen

4. Kyle Howarth

5. Dan Thompson

6. Max Perry

7. Freddy Hodder

Ride like that for the first few months and if he excels and gets his confidence up swap him to 3, if not he's always going to do a good job at number 2.

Same applies for Kyle and Dan, depends on who's performing the best is who rides at 5 and who rides at 4. It's a very flexible team. Reserves suck though.

I'll have to disagree with the idea behind this comment "you could easily set it up so Leon had an easier role" Flint has a 6.85 average, which is 3rd heat leader standard in the current Championship era, if I felt I had to set up the riding order to give a "3rd heat leader" an easier ride then I'd have to question why he's in the team.

I'd suggest, it should be Boughen who gets the easier role, a 17 year old in only his second full year in the Champ.

Boughen at 3 will be weak .IMO

Depends how the opposition run their team, for example Berwick, Edinburgh, Oxford, Redcar, Scunthorpe & possibly you could argue Workington too ran with a stronger number 4 & a weaker number 3 last year.

Personally I'd put the weakest top 5 rider at 2. I do sometimes wonder why clubs don't switch around the riding order more often depending on their opponents or with track specialists away from home etc.

This subject is just a matter of opinion. That was mine.

I think any youngsters coming to Glasgow has a good chance to greatly improve, with the 2 tracks big and small and unrestricted track time they would have a great chance to really develop.

I appreciate where you’re coming from and Pearson’s impressive average at Ashfield didn’t go unnoticed, but I believe the famous quote of ”There are three kinds of lies; lies, damned lies and statistics” is very much applicable.

I don’t care if you end the season with average of beyond ten; if you start the season in the main body of the team, but find yourself relegated to the reserve berth, it hasn’t been a great season.

The relegation to reserve came with the inevitable improvement in scores because he should be riding in heat two.

He ended up at reserve because we signed a clown on a 6.00 average. Absolutely nothing to do with James. He also spent a fair amount of time riding at 4, also nothing to do with him.

To be fair there's not many 2 pointers who i'd expect to excell next season (apart from Cairns). Think they all may end up a similar standard. I'd say Jody Scott & Max James are two of the more promising ones, but there's not a lot in it.

Hard to say if there's better options than Perry when you don't know who else has signed up 2 point reserves.

Glasgow will likely miss a high scoring reserve, but their top 5 could almost do enough on their own.

Last week in November?

Is Flint coming back? I’ll be surprised if he is and I don’t mean pleasantly.

With all due respect, to compete for trophies, you rely on one or two big improvements and in 2024, Glasgow were likely looking at Flint and Pearson for that. Sadly, they didn’t and Flint’s final centre green interview highlighted that even he would be surprised by a return.

Having said that, if he’s wearing a red and white race suit in April, he’ll have my backing.

Flint apparently signed a 2 year contract last season.

It's away from home that the reserves will struggle, having to take at least seven rides between them. Max Perry scored just one point in ten rides for Poole ... And it was by beating Freddy Hodder at Berwick! Is he going to be another Luke Chessell? We should have gone for a better balanced team rather than the top heavy top five.

Poole or Glasgow will have Cairns in June on a 2 who will end with a 5+. Whichever team gets him will win play offs. Only need to run 4 matches till then so the starting number 7 will be a throwaway. Makes sense therefore to use all other points on top six.

He's signed for Zelonia Gora as well, can he ride in the u24 league at 15?

If so it's a dangerous game to pin a season on getting him in half way through

I thought Boughen had signed for oxford.

He was announced by Oxford, but he has taken down his own social media post announcing the he will be back at Oxford. As I understand it he has fallen out with Oxford to the extent that he isn't going to be riding for the Cheetahs next season. Not sure where the story/rumour originates from, or how true it is though.

I believe Chris Harris was mentoring him last year which might be where the Glasgow rumours come from? Young British rider with potential and he has proved that he knows the quickest way round Ashfield so I get why Glasgow would be interested if he was available

He is still listed on the Oxford Cheetahs website as part of their team plans, but the rumour keeps getting repeated and it only seems to be him going to Glasgow, not anywhere else.

I guess we'll find out when the Tigers announce their 7 (or at least announce enough that his ave no longer fits or no longer makes sense to fill the gap)

James was a very skilful and fast young rider around Ashfield, everyone who visited Ashfield could see that. He beat a lot of good riders in his first season with the club. He probably had only visited most away tracks twice at the most before joining the Tigers, so his away form wasn'ta complete surprise. To me he was a success and I'm really disappointed that he's not in next year's team.

Our opinions obviously differ and I suppose that’s the beauty of sport; healthy debate.

I’ve already said I was impressed by Pearson’s form at Ashfield, but I was also in attendance at Berwick, Redcar and Edinburgh where he scored three points across three meetings. He also scored two at Oxford, Scunthorpe and Plymouth.

This isn’t an anti-James Pearson campaign, but we surrendered our title, he found himself relegated to reserve and in at least half-a-dozen fixtures, under-performed. I reiterate: this is a differing in standards.

This just isn’t accurate, is it?

Ivacic - the clown you’re referring to - had no impact on Pearson’s status in the team. Jack Smith joined at reserve and was promoted to the main body of the team at the expense of Pearson.

Regardless, if you sat the Tigers’ stakeholders and Pearson down in March and told them he’d end the season at reserve, all parties would be disappointed and there isn’t a single doubt about that.
