What does it matter what they done in the past.. He's wash up now...Bit like saying  in Football we just signed ex Pl winner Eric Cantona on a free transfer

Not really. Eric Cantona last played professional football 27 years and is 58. Peter Kildemand last won a Grand Prix 8 years ago and is 35.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I look forward to him proving you wrong!

Although the reference is to 'established average' not 2024 average and although PK did not ride in PL2 (now the 'National league') this year he does have an established average from 2023 which might push him up to 4.50.

This is the wording it just says ‘Published average’ from the previous season i.e 2024

Each category must be looked at in order, starting with number 1. The
riders average to be considered is to be the published average over 18
or more heats in the previous season (converted to meet British
Speedway standards) and if the rider fits in more than one category
the higher average is to be used.
98
Speedway Control Bureau Regulations
If 18 heats have not been completed the next category down will be
applied, proof of which must be submitted to the BSP office for
approval before the Team Declaration is submitted.

You  can find loads of examples of people who were good at there sport 8 years ago and are no good now. Killer winning a GP is irrelevant .. Who the next signing Ryan Sullivan ?

Anyone could have picked him up on a 4 but didn't... that's not an Oxford problem?

Indeed not, its a Speedway problem

Potentially a shrewd move by Oxford and even if it doesn't really work out there is unlikely to be too much detriment

When Greg Hancock was 35 he still had three World Championships ahead of him. Plenty of sportsmen stay at the top longer these days but it doesn’t get any easier physically as you get older. Kildemand could do well but he does have a number of crashes behind him that tend to cause riders to lose their edge, especially if they are married with kids.

I’d like to see Kildemand turn the years back but I don’t think  anyone will really  know until the season starts.

Was he awarded Danish sportsperson of the year or something similar, only a few years ago?

From what I can vaguely recall, shoulder injuries seemed to take their toll on him, as they tend to do with a great many riders. Maybe that has accounted for relatively low amount of league riding in recent years and maybe he's now physically fixed to try to step things back up again.

If so, the risk could be worthwhile for Oxford especially if he is being realistic with money.

Or am I thinking of someone else but can't recall the name?

Absolutely, I completely agree. But - as other people have said - he's surely worth the risk on a 4/4.5? How many active Grand Prix winners are available on that sort of average?

Very funny when Spires make a signing that winds up poor old Orion. Last season Magic - the season ahead Kildemand.

I said the whole team.was over rated and they would not make the play offs and Magic was not a big hitting number one..of course the normal suspects came on here  saying they prove me wrong ..how did that end up ?. I also remember people saying how Lewis Kerr would be the best reserve in the league..lol ..The one think I've pick up from.the Oxford promotion is that have no intention of trying to win this league as last team changes or lack of them and now this side has shown..Now we got the same this year with the signing of Crash Bandicoot.Greg Hancock etc may have 35 but we're still active and at  the top of there game something that Crash is not .

I don’t know anymore.  If someone is on a 4/4.5 You are talking about someone who you expect to hover just inside or outside your reserve position and win some of the less important races both at home and away if the team are to do anything. I would say Kildemand still has the experience to beat a lot of second string/reserve level riders but for the sort of money he probably wants the promotion would probably expect him to be almost a third heatleader at home and score enough points away to enable the team to a few away wins. Whether he can do that is anybody’s guess. If you think of riders like Hans Andersen, Peter Karlsson and even Jason Crump to a certain extent they all went off the boil fairly quickly when they got to a certain age. So to sign  Kildemand is a certainly a risk but it really depends on what exactly they want from him and who else is in the team. I would love to see him do well but the promotion need to go into this with their eyes open.
