Poole 2025

Would like to put this post out again as no responses received, other than the ongoing exchanges re Poole not participating in the Prem KO Cup.

Now the Champ fixtures are out.

How many Lge matches before young Cairns gets a GSA ??

I notice Poole ride 7 Lge matches before he rides his first match against Glasgow at home on 2nd July. Meaning in effect 9 Lge fixtures left prior to any play offs if they qualify.

Can anyone confirm what the qualifying criteria is as get the feeling they have timed it so he keeps his 2 point GSA also for 2026. I know the play offs do not count for GSA's. Similar the BSN qualifiers that counted will also be completed before July.

Only 6 matches needed for a new average, Cairns would get a new average before the season ends.

As I understand it - should be after SIX meetings.  Of course one factor to consider is any of those 7 matches may get postponed and add to the 9 and, not wishing the young lad bad fortune, he has to remain fit for the matches

Has Jody Scott been mentioned as the temporary number 7?

Seems the logical choice, could go back to Oxford when Cairns comes in.

I think Scott is the strongest unsigned 2.00 rider, however he may not want to risk his average going above 2.00 knowing he'll get dropped.

If it does go above 2.00 makes it harder for him to fit into the Oxford team as a double switch with Nicholls - not that's there's a guarantee he'll fit even on a 2.00 average.

I think Jody Scott would be better off agreeing to ride 5 matches (& KOC) for Poole, then see what his average is before  deciding wether to carry on?

It's a very unique situation, of a rider knowing he'll be dropped, so he's bound to think of his average, compared to normal 2.00 signings.

Problem is that don't the 4 BSN Qualifiers also count in the GSA calculation (thought they did last season), which would make it totally unviable if they also have 7 Lge fixtures before 1st July.

If jody was the choice then he already has his NDL season sorted with both Oxf & K.Lynn, and if you factor in Poole have 13 fixtures over Champ/BSN and KO Cup before 1st July.

Considering Jody is only 18 in Feb 25 that's not a bad meeting haul as of Jan 2025 and that's not counting all the younger rider individual meetings.

If he is doing okay I am sure that another team would go for him if they see he is doing well (assuming Oxford could/do not want to fit him in.

With no poole in the cup

Should revert to a group format similar to what they do in the champions league

One group of 7 but sides ride one home and one away meeting randomly selected, top 4 go into the semi finals

  1. Ipswich vs Kings Lynn
  2. Oxford vs Belle Vue
  3. Sheffield vs Birmingham
  4. Leicester vs Ipswich
  5. Kings Lynn vs Oxford
  6. Belle Vue vs Sheffield
  7. Birmingham vs Leicester

reckon it would make it quite interesting as its only 2 matches, so you'd likely stand a chance of progression

Interesting idea, but should be in the Premiership section.

Shall i post it on the Poole thread in the Premiership section?

It has nothing to do with Poole, other than the fact they are not in the Premiership nor in the Premiership KOC.

If you posted a new thread in the Premiership section maybe called "new KOC idea" fans, especially of other Premiership teams could comment wether they think it's a good idea or not, maybe get a healthy debate going?

But posting here could clog up the thread with comments that have nothing to do with Poole.

But, but, I thought everything was to do with Poole, the British speedway world revolves around them, and other teams exist only to ride against Poole. 🤪😉

Latest rumour for no 7 Sonny Springer

Could be an interesting option.

Just turned 16 in Nov and had a decent first season in the sport riding for Leicester 2 last season.

Had a 5.60 GSA but 6.80 incl bonus points. Had some decent scores if you look through the Speedway Stats website under the riders section. Rode 10 league matches in that first season and could be another youngster who could have a decent future.

Would be a decent option and with no pressure on him. Considering what he achieved as a first season 15 year old, I would be happy to see him sign until July. Also good experience for him as he is already signed for Leicester 2 & 3 teams.

Getting ahead of myself here but if he did do reasonably well,  and shows expected improvement for Leicester could be an ideal 2 pointer for 2026. Just a thought if Cairns ends up with 4 or more at season end. A decent carrot to dangle in front of him as a potential incentive.

Also on Sonny Springer didn't realise how impressive this youngster looked until I just saw 2 impressive videos of him on Youtube just now.

The one which was Leicester V Middlesbrough was very impressive where he beat team mate Joe Thompson but also beat the likes of trigger & Perry. Also in an U21 individual  he beat Max James. Both meetings last season. Can gate and has an exciting style.

This guy could be going places based on what I've seen. Remember he rode these meetings as a 15 year old.

Just type in Sonny Springer into youtube search.
