He was IN when limit was 38 points He would have FITTED in a 40 point Team Such a brilliant question? How can anyone defend Ford saying Foord was dropped "due to the points limit". Unless they both agreed to say that, so Vinnie looks better for prospective employers? Certainly sounds better than, "we rate Paul Starke higher" lol! This team wont win the league but the one after July 1st might I'm sure they won't have a point to play with when Cairns comes in. I expect Cook, Rowe, Thomsen & Starke could put a point on their averages each. At least 3 points between them.
scaramanga
Be interesting to see if any early call offs early in season before the expected switch to bring cairns in Not sure if rules are same but years ago a rider could not sign senior contract until there birthday So until that day nothing is guaranteed

STEVEHOLS54
While some not too impressed by Starke think it's a clever signing, especially at Poole. I think he will do well at home against plenty of the reserves with a higher GSA due to his track knowledge (as evidenced last season in 3 meetings when Worky visited). Against teams with stronger reserves I think that Poole top 4 will outscore the other teams sufficiently to cover the shortfall at reserve. Factor in that Tobias could well end up at reserve with Cairns after the first GSA's end of June doesn't make bad reading. Also if Starke does bomb out they could replace maybe up to 5 points (based on first GSA if he outscores most weaker/inexperienced reserves) which widens the replacement possibilities. Assuming Cairns would replace the 2 pointer temp replacement. The important part is to try and stay in top 4. We shouldn't think too much about the brilliant treble season in 2024. We had to shed 6 points in team strength, but we are now in a weaker league after some good riders not returning. Still optimistic of a decent season.

We only need to qualify for the play offs.
FAST GATER
Starke is a mystery to me a few years ago his scoring just dropped off a cliff ,no big injury if I am not mistaken his form just fell away and has never recovered !

BTW looking forward to seeing Vinnie around our superb race track at Northside . thank you all .

Broke both arms in a bad one didn't he? Not been the same since. He's an odd signing when you think they could have had the up and coming Foord. Both as injury prone as each other but would say Foord's machinery is better/more reliable. My guess is that they had a new face lined up but the average was 5 not 4 and Starke was all that was left to fill the gap alongside the rumoured sacrificial lamb. poole keith
I thought gavan made an interesting point a while back that maybe matt ford didn't want vinys baggage, like a lot on here I follow moto gp and if he behaved like that to the crowd whatever the provocation he would have been punished ,the racing incident would have been dealt with separately maybe " no further action " or 'long lap penalty etc 'Regarding his father it happens in moto gp that if a parent behaves badly(usually the father!)they are banned from the team garage and the paddock, there have even been cases where team sponsors (admittedly usually major companies) have made demands on riders behaviour and even asked for their removal.Maybe matt ford just didn't want the hassle???
gazzac
12 hours ago, PTW said: Is that because they changed limit from 38.00-40.00 and it caught us out as ideally I would of had Foord all day long,Starke isn’t a bad signing for a season of improvement can’t really go wrong should be hitting 4.50-5.00 meaning him thomsen at reserve do a decent reserve all season, but after that he won’t be at Poole in 2026 where as Vinnie it could of been more long term. Knowing Poole's luck/planning, expect Starke will have his best season for years, Foord will have an average one and be back next season on a similar average as this year. Hope not from Workington's point of view but could happen.
Sings4Speedway
Starke even past his best is well capable of sticking a point on his average and possibly two. Vinnie may have fitted average wise but not with the club image. Big crashes, unable to finish meetings due to no machinery and the crowd incident are all not in keeping with the clubs professional outlook.

However I'd still expect Poole to be above 40 by then. Kerr's average should in theory go down, as he drops his high scoring Oxford '23 figures & retains his lower scoring Berwick '24 figures. Starke should do the opposite, as he drops his low scoring Birmingham '23 & Glasgow '24 scores, but retains his higher Workington '24 scores. I'm sure Poole's master plan, is to drop the "temporary two pointer" for Cairns, as he along with the top 6 are good enough to win the title. TheWellBehavedWorrall
I think the selection of Starke at the expense of Foord speaks volumes for the panic stations at Wimborne Road. I’m not buying the agenda that Poole are protecting their image; what Poole are doing is neglecting the future of the sport for what they see as an ageing diamond in the rough. The suggestion that machinery was the issue doesn’t wash. I could have pedalled around Ashfield faster than Starke did last season. Similar could be said of Starke with his preparation & upkeep of his bikes often breaking down. I seem to remember a meeting last year when he had no bikes running & no "team mate" lent him one. Surely the "temporary two pointer's" objective will be to out perform other two pointers, leaving the likely outcome that he will replace one of them.
