Strange really as Poole's main team sponsor is a huge fan of the development of young riders It is a strange one,I guess some fans are fans of winning, and some are fans of speedway.

I bet that doesn't even cover stadium rent for 5 nl meetings let alone all other costs and a massively reduced attendance income...!

I loved the 2 years of the Bournemouth Buccaneers and they were a winning team. Garry May at his best with those lads

szkocjasid
Unfortunately there's not a lot of encouragement for Poole to enter a development league, what have they done since they last rode in the third tier in 2010? Run one junior meeting last year (because they had to). Yet they've apparently signed arguably the most promising junior since then (Cairns) for the team in June next year. If they can spend no money on developing junior riders, yet still pick up the best prospects, what incentive is there for them to do any more (than they absolutely have to)? As much as I'd like them to enter a development league, if they run Speedway to make a profit & don't feel the need to help develop riders for the future, they don't have to. Certainly is a shame they don't. Edited 2 hours ago by szkocjasid

Interesting, as I was typing a post, you've come out with virtually the same point.
DJC
18 hours ago, SteelShoe said: Ambiguous statement for me regarding coming away as better riders. Perhaps you could define what you mean by better riders ?. Young riders as we seen with Max Perry get dropped if not performing he certainly didn't come away as a better rider. Vinnie showed rapid improvement in his form than he had showed in the NDL the season before. Poole tend generally to make good decisions on rider recruitment ie good eye for improvers. Such riders would become more experienced and improve wherever they ride imo. Improved, more riders come away improved than not. Especially those at the start of their uk carers. There will always be exceptions to the rule. Perry being the most recent and obvious. I do agree with your point that they have a good eye which certainly helps that though. It's called 'good club management'!! Even when they ran Bournemouth Buccaneers, with Garry May as TM, and won everything, admission was £10 (reduced to £5 for main team season ticket holders), but still didn't attract decent crowds to be sustainable.

Agree,Berwick tried it with the Bullets for a couple of seasons and it didn’t attract decent crowds (with a very good Team on track ).

Unfortunately with the average age dynamic at Wimborne Road the average use time of adult nappies and lilets does not exceed the time limit to safely complete 30 heats of Speedway and the further limit of no more than 5 heats with passing* excitement (*excuse the pun)
