Etheridge for vissing swung it for you in the end.

Maybe so, but the fact still remains that we lost both our 1 and 5 (one of them technically twice) during the season, and went into the play offs without them. If memory serves me right, we had 6 riders with serious injuries last season and only 1 actually happened while riding for Sheffield.

The bit I don't understand is why Ipswich have not brought in a replacement when Doyle himself announced his season was done over 2 months ago ? I appreciate that maybe a rider of the same quality couldn't be found, but surely a rider settled into the team is better than constantly changing guests or running rider replacement ?  Maybe they have a master plan involving the top riders from the teams that don't make the playoffs and have already tapped up the likes of Lindgren, Janowski, Kvech, Harris ?

Unless you are allowed to sign the world number 5 after any cut off dates and during the play offs of course.🤫

A move within the rules.  Ipswich have had 4 months to replace Doyle within the rules.

Maybe we didn’t react immediately in the hope Jason would return before the end of the season.
the truth of it is Jason and Emil are irreplaceable. Even if we got zmarslik I don’t think he would get close to those two in England straight away.
Apart from kvech it has been impossible to get top riders into the uk mid season. Now the rules have been changed it’s stopped any mercenary whose Swedish and polish clubs have failed to reach the playoffs and they want the rides to keep active for the GP

A rule that rightly got taken out because of the lack of credibility and fairness to other teams.

The rule thankfully has reverted back to pretty much how it’s been for a while now. Whether it is fair is a different argument. The ruling that no changes after 75% of matches completed and no changes for season ending injuries especially the play offs.

whether it’s right or credible to allow teams to sign riders JUST for the play offs is open to debate as discussed.

That all said the rule changes for 2022 allowed  just 1 team to benefit greatly from it.

I feel for Ipswich losing their top 2 and it’s up to them what they do moving forward.

However the play offs are littered with teams hugely affected by injuries to key riders. Thems the breaks and that’s speedway.

Ipswich aren’t the first team that might lose the title because of injuries and they won’t be the last.
2022 seemed an exception to the rule. And you have to wonder why it was allowed.

Doyle himself issued a statement at the beginning of June saying the specialist had told him he would be put for 4-6 months. There was no way he was coming back this season, he made that quite clear. Not replacing him was a massive gamble by the club, and Emil's injury has now made it the wrong decision. To now expect sympathy for a situation that the club has had nearly 3 months to resolve is laughable.

Wrong. He confirmed his season was “100% over” on the 9th of August after visiting the specialist for his 9 week check up. It was always likely to be the case, but he clearly hadn’t totally given up on returning despite what was said back in May.

On your second point, nobody is asking for any sympathy. It doesn’t matter whether it’s been 3 months or 3 weeks, the fact is no suitable rider has been interested in coming over. I know they’ve held extensive talks with several top tier riders and came extremely close on one occasion but couldn’t manage to persuade him to do the deal. Both your club and King’s Lynn have faced the same problem. You can’t just wave an imaginary wand and easily replace the leagues best rider. Sure, they could probably have signed Troy Batchelor to replace Doyle, but who in their right mind would do that? (With all due respect to Troy).

I would say 4-6 months took him to at least October. 😉

This a pretty extreme case though Steve. Of course teams have been hit by injuries in the past, but I can’t remember an occasion where anyone lost both of their top two on +9 averages. There was a short spell mid season where we were without Doyle King Ellis and Thompson. That’s three of the top four! It’s been a bonkers season for injuries and is a testament to the other members of the team that we’re still in the discussion around finishing top with a few weeks of the season to go. There’s still hope Sayfutdinov may return in time for the play offs, although I didn’t like what I heard on Thursday. Have to wait and see on that one.

Lambert was superb replacing the superb Fricke.

Wolves lost both Freddie and Jacob as their top 2 so yes teams have been equally hit severely.  I’m not sure what the answer is to it. Do we allow trophy chasing riders from abroad to join a play off team in only those situations which of course is open to abuse.

Fricke wasn’t superb that year, was poor in the GPs and hadn’t scored 2 maximums all season long. It was highly unlikely he would have scored what Lambert did although not impossible of course.

We know the rules were altered for one season and one team benefited from that rule change.
