Ipswich vs Leicester, Thursday, 15 August

Recommended Posts

Any predictions of who will guest for the Witches on Thursday night?

And, with three home matches in 8 days, can they book sufficient, effective guests?

With R/R for Doyle and Sayfutdinov, the Witches could just about manage - but I can't see how R/R plus a guest would match Sayfutdinov's presence ...

Very tough fixture! We need all 6 to chip in on Thursday… and personally I think they will. Need a big night from the skipper at number 5 too

First Home defeat of the season coming up due to Emil missing as well as Doyle.

Well it should be. Clubs will never have a better chance than this.

“The team that finishes top deserve it”. Nope, not this year if as expected Ipswich now miss out.

Gonna stick my neck out and say could be a very narrow home win! No pressure on the Witches for this one if they lose no one will blame them, If Scott rides like we know he can then he could get a hatfull. Adam and Danny need to be really on it as well. I expect Keynan and Jordan to outscore their counterparts.

Track will be very dry and dusty so factor in the gating!

The next three meetings are all at home to the three teams below them, if we can’t get adequate guests then can see us losing all of them and finishing fourth in the league. Why haven’t we got Kurtz to guest, it’s not as if he has a Grand Prix this weekend or has BV stopped him from doing it?

We were finishing top don’t think there’s any doubt about that. All we needed to do was remain unbeaten at Foxhall and I think we’d have done that reasonably comfortably. Not likely now so I guess it doesn’t matter a great deal although would have been handy to avoid Belle Vue in the semi cos we can’t ride the place but it is what it is. All we can hope for now is that Emil is properly fit for the play offs, and by that I mean fit enough to be at his best and not just fit enough to take part and not do himself justice, and we get a strong guest for Doyle. Then we can give it our best crack.

It may well be that the Foxhall hierarchy have lined up an adequate guest for the play offs and as long as Emil is back I do not see that it matters how they finish as they are capable of putting up a good show at any of the other top three contenders, although it would be nice to have an easier passage but this UK speedway with rules made up as it goes along and no one is taking into account an Ipswich or KL scenario with riders injured or unavailable or withholding services and managers failing to act in the best interest of the sport. Screw the punter and let’s race based on the lowest common denominator just about sums up the folks who run the sport in this country. Is it any wonder no one takes speedway seriously and with so few riders available or coming up through the ranks, it is on a a self inflicted hiding to oblivion.

I agree that if the Witches were to lose those three home matches it is likely that they will end up in 4th. Also if that did happen and depending on how other results go Leicester could be top although I think Sheffield will keep ahead of them.

Maybe somewhat academic though as the play off places seem pretty well sorted apart from the final order so it will be the make up of the Witches during September that will be more important.

That is the problem we have the top two averages in the league out and we can’t get no one near them whether this is down to other clubs around us not letting them who knows. No disrespect to Scott who has done a good job we are replacing a 9 point plus rider with someone just under 6. We have done really well to stay top of the league but with both out I think it’s too much to win these meetings. When we had Scott at least we had another big hitter. That is where the guest situation doesn’t work especially when most teams are riding the same night.

This. We’ve done remarkably well to still sit top without Doyle since the end of May. The likes of Rew, Ellis and Thompson have all ridden above their averages and we’ve battled hard to compensate his absence. Even Jenkins has stepped it up in recent weeks. But losing Emil as well is a killer. You look at the line up on Thursday and there isn’t enough top end strength there. We know Nicholls is decent around Foxhall, but he’s guested seven times at home this year and failed to hit double figures on four occasions. He’s no Doyle replacement and to be fair was never expected to be with all due respect to him. Our biggest problem is going to be Sheffield on Monday when even Nicholls won’t be available. You’re probably looking at R/R and possibly Blodorn covering the top two. That has disaster written all over it.

Leicester will be looking for revenge for us pipping that last play off spot last year and can only see a defeat.

Maybe scrap home against Sheffield depending on who guests but then lose again to Belle Vue. We'll get pipped for top spot in the league and then go out in the Semi finals.

A very tough meeting and a lot depends if cook rides for Leicester and if not who they replace him with.  I think it will be Drew kemp personally.
no complaints or threats to call the meeting off from the professional Ipswich management I see.

Take note Buster.

Team who finish top always deserve it, injurys are part of sport and teams have to deal with them.

Hard to deal with losing the top 2 riders in the league.

Disagree, Emil's injury could have been avoided had the Sheffield track staff done their job.
