Normski
If Cookie was not to ride for Berwick we would have 8.60 to play with. But finding someone on or around that average is another thing.

Since he hasn't actually ridden for Berwick yet would it not be similar to Covatti at Plymouth where they had to use a reduced average for guests even though he was legitimately out with an injury, would they even be allowed to run guests? As I mentioned a couple of posts back.... what's to stop Cook from telling the BSPA that he's not withholding his services, he's told Berwick to remove him from the team.... if that's what's going to happen of course. Isn't it pretty much the same thing if he has signed a contract? Palm Toft looks most likely. A quick google search shows he averaged 8.08 in 2024 (8.88 at home/7.23 away). Could do a lot worse than that unless there is something I have missed and thats why Berwick fans dont want him? Certainly stronger than going down the road of a newcomer with an assessed average. Though Thomas Jorgenson was very good for the club (first time) after never impressing when visiting previously.

I'm no expert on the rules but wouldn't Berwick technically have to do the same as Poole and "officially" name a 7th rider? You can't start with guests can you. No guest facility for a rider who hasn't ridden for you

He was "genuinely" injured and underestimated how long it would take him to recover IIRC.

I do see your argument but IMO there's a difference because the season hasn't started. If, hypothetically, Cook has quit speedway, I know I know again again, then he's not really withholding his services, he's not available at all to withdraw his services. It's an interesting conundrum.

It's an interesting conundrum. Its a fair comment. It's out of the clubs control. I guess allowing guests would be a whole new issue entirely and would see clubs signing riders that have no intention to ride thus allowing guests. It really is baffling though that in 48 hours of their number one dropping out of Leicesters team this early, and with the same manager as them, that Berwick haven't released a statement giving some clarity over the situation. Has Cook just decided he wants CL racing only, has he quit both leagues, has he had a bender and sent a text in the heat of the moment and now regrets it? Who knows.

StevePark
Berwick have still named Cookie as riding for them in the Pairs: https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1281860183369261&set=a.213272360228054
H20
Thing is teams don't usually register there teams until quite late to the SCB incase of any changes. So wether he is withholding his services or not it's very unlikely Berwick would get any facility. Quite a few Workington fans were very disappointed when Workington decided not to sign him for 2025 but there were reasons behind that and this is showing one of the reasons why they opted to go without there 2024 captain.
