Poole Pirates Vs Oxford Cheetahs 14/8/24

Recommended Posts

This coming Wednesday the Pirates take on the Oxford Cheetahs in the search for league points.

The Cheetahs have a powerful top two of Sam Masters and ex Pirate Scott Nicholls who both are good value to watch home and away. Especially strong around Wimborne road.

The Cheetahs third heat leader being  Ashton Boughen who guested for Poole on their recent northern tour.

The second strings being Cameron Heeps and Jordan Jenkins and at reserve Luke killen and Jordy Scott.

The Pirates having suffered their first defeat  in the league last night at Scunthorpe will need to bounce back and  pick up the points and also hopefully  the bonus point also.

My concern at the moment is the loss of form in young Sam Hagon and also that of Tobias Tomsen, who I think is still not recovered from his ankle injury and not fully fit.

Reserves help to win meetings and he should be winning heat 2 at the very least.

The other concern is the injury to Vinnie Foord and if he is out for the season than that will be a sad loss.

We are still top of the league and a win on Wednesday will help to consolidate that.

Thoughts?

Heeps is really Oxford's 3rd heat leader. As Boughen has struggled recently, I'd be moving him to number 2.

Sadly finding the Poole / Scunthorpe / Oxford clashes with each other as the least interesting of the season in terms of results, no matter what happens all 3 will be in the play-offs.

From my calculations if Pirates win against Oxford they will take all 3 points (45-45 at Oxford) and GUARANTEE top spot in the league!

Of course nothing is won yet but does that give us choice of opponents?

So come on the Boyzzzz!

You would think it be the same as the Prem. But if you did get to choose I think Poole would pick Workington/Glasgow anyway, so be the same outcome.

If Redcar finished 4th we might have gone for Oxford as Redcar quite good at Poole!

Any update on Vinnie's broken collar bone?

It hurts!! Unconfirmed reports suggest he might need an op. I've asked Dan but not replied as yet.

I thought it would be 1 v 4 & 2 v 3, but it doesn't state that. However it also doesn't state top team gets to pick their opponents neither.

Update on Vinnie: Nothing broken. Needs to rest  with physio,  so its a bit of a waiting game, likely to be out upto 4 weeks! ( but we know what speedway riders are like).

Have to use guests on a horses for courses basis in the meantime.

We don't choose, but if we finish top, we get choice of venues. IE, we take the second leg. Same in the final should we et there.

Extract from 2024 regulations:

011.1.1 Premiership & Championship Leagues
Premiership League, teams will meet on 4 occasions, 2 at home and 2
away.
Championship League teams will meet on 2 occasions, 1 home and 1 away.
Play Offs will involve the top 4 teams in the final League Table in a series
of home and away ties on a knockout basis.
1st placed team v 4th placed team
2nd placed team v 3rd placed team
The highest placed team will have first choice of the home or away leg (in
both semi-finals and final).
If at the completion of all league fixtures 2 teams are tied on league
points the Points Difference between Points For and Points Against
will be calculated to determine the hierarchical order.
Play off meetings will be determined by aggregate heat points scored in the
home and away meetings. In the event of a tie on aggregate with the semi
or final, the outcome will be determined by the Super Heat format.
The winners of the semi finals on aggregate will contest a 2 legged final
home and away with the aggregate winner being crowned the League
Champions.
A rider may only guest for one team in any 2 legged tie (home and away)
