Sheffield v Ipswich 8th August

Harris guest for Woffinden, R/R for Doyle. From an Ipswich perspective the name of the game here is to keep it as close as possible with the bonus point in mind. I’m pretty sure both teams will win their respective home legs, but the bonus to either team could be vital this time around to decide who finishes top. Looking at the fixtures left for both clubs, the one thing in Ipswich’ favour is that Sheffield still have to go to the NSS whilst we’re done there for this season (barring potential play offs).

If Lynn manage to call off their home fixture with Belle Vue hopefully we can get Kurtz or Bewley to guest rather than use R/R

You surely don't want lynn postponing a match do you:D

Ahead of the playoffs, it looks like the only real interest is now down to who will finish top (as realistically we know the top 4), so an interesting meeting awaits. Can’t afford any passengers especially with R/R if Witches hope to stay in touching distance for the return at foxhall

If Ipswich don’t finish top it’ll prove the theory wrong that “the team that finishes top deserve it over the season”. Ipswich have been top all season long despite losing Doyle back in May, and battling through an injury crisis mid season where they were missing Doyle, King, Ellis and Thompson all at the same time. Even the most biased fans of rival clubs must concede that Ipswich put together the best 1-7 this year. Doesn’t mean a thing come play offs though of course but it’s still always nice to finish top of the pile.

Ipswich only have one away fixture remaining, at Birmingham. Sheffield have two, Belle Vue and King’s Lynn away. There’s currently a 4 point gap at the top so Ipswich SHOULD really see the job through. Both Sheffield and Belle Vue still have to go to Foxhall though and both are capable of winning although neither really came close in the first run of fixtures.

Having just gone through the remaining fixtures of both clubs, if Ipswich remain unbeaten at Foxhall, then realistically Sheffield are going to have to win at the NSS to finish top. Sheffield, Belle Vue and the form horse Leicester, still have to visit Foxhall so still some difficult hurdles to jump over.

The only way I can see the Witches winning the grand final this year, is for Sheffield or Leicester to beat the Aces in the semi's, so finishing top is crucial imo...

I wouldn’t rule out Leicester leapfrogging Belle Vue yet the way they’re riding. Currently 5 behind with two meetings in hand.

Very true, and their remaining fixtures all look very winable, apart from the forthcoming trip to Foxhall...

To save another KL fixture getting called off "in the best interests of the sport", maybe Sheffield should go RR for Woofinden and let Harris guest for KL again.;)

Constant light drizzle at the track at the minute.

Thanks Gaz. This looked to be an entertaining match which I planned to watch on BSN, but didn't want to part with my cash if its either going to be rained off or raced on a wet muddy lottery of a track! Further updates nearer tapes up would be very much appreciated.

Track looks in good nick and rain hasn’t affected it at all really. Keeps spitting on but nothing really and I am sure they were even putting a little bit of water down before.
