British Youth Round at Belle Vue on 2 August 2024

Well with 2 days to go before this event, still no one knows the start time.

It states on British Speedway website TBC.

Pretty normal for both the event and staging organisations.

As theres no funding for the kids ( they even pay for the race jackets ) , the clubs are reluctant to give the kids there own stand alone meetings now as the club has to fund it , hence them being mostly run as second half events .

Redcars round had the next big star Will Cairns ‘racing’ against a kid who couldn't slide ! but the kid never gave up bless him.

Smallest entry list says it all really, and they will have to spend more money on the bikes next season to comply with the next set of silly rules, thats the state of the sport sadly.

A stand-alone meeting for the Youth Championship doesn't draw a crowd, so only those tracks that pay no rent would have any chance of staging a stand-alone meeting without losing a fortune.

Doing it the way Workington, Redcar and Belle Vue do, with the 500cc and 125cc raced as a double header with one league meeting, and then the 250cc and 150cc as a double header with another league meeting, seems the sensible way.

I like the way Belle Vue do it with the Youth round going on before the main meeting, giving the kids plenty of time, rather than rushing things through as a second half.

It's a shame more tracks don't get involved in the youth series, as we might then get more kids taking part.

Where is the saviour of British speedway when you need him most. The SCB/BSPA were making a commitment to youth racing this season but it feels just as half arsed as it ever has. Entry numbers are down year on year and you can cut the field in half next time round with the introduction of rev limiters as the budgets many are running on are stretched at best and several riders don't know how to change ignition timing let alone replace the units.

Whats left of the MDL will be finished too as those riders are little different. Who in their right mind would recommend to anyone these days to a parent to get their child into Speedway?

Pray tell, where is it stated anywhere that it will be staged before the main meeting and what time the meeting starts at?

Just to clarify….its the first time Redcar have done it this way as they have always given the youth their own meeting on a Saturday , letting the crowd in for free but it cost them too much with no backing from the SCB/BSPL and now they have to squeeze the kids in with a main meeting to cover the medics and insurance.

The powers that be said there would be more opportunities for all this year…….think they told porkies.

The Belle Vue website, the main headline on the Belle Vue Facebook, and Belle Vue social media for about the last fortnight, and even unofficial BV fans Facebook groups.

So what you are saying rings true about advertisement and business acumen.

If you are a speedway supporter you know about it and if you are not sod you as we do not want you.

As always the sport and promotion shoots themselves in the foot.

This was a great opportunity to get into Manchester and actually promote and advertise a great event, which includes children.

From:       "Nobody knows what time it starts"

to:     "Actually everyone knows what time it starts because it clearly says 6.00pm in all the advertising"

to:   "Well....  erm.... erm....   You should tell someone else too.

Does seem to be the most bizarre self-own of all time!
