The Brummies did way better than expected but were badly let down at reserve. Sheffield with effectively two RS riders or 3 pointers score 12 points with only 1 last place whilst reserves with true averages can only manage 5 and one rider admitting he gave up when beaten up in one heat. No one should expect him to consistently take points off either Holder or Fricke. Brummies were let down by the two reserves, Flint & Castagne should not have dropped points to the Sheffield reserves. Palm Toft is living off his reputation from the Panthers Dads Army play off success .. he's frankly been a disappointment since. He gets a pass tonight since it was his Brummies debut. Harsh to criticise Castagna, I thought he rode really well and unlucky in heat 2. Brennan was reserve for SON and on his home track should do better than that, he's proven he can. He looks so comfortable on the bike, moves around a lot less than the modern trend but never seems flapped or out of control. Going to Sheffield has probably been ideal for him to let the bike run in the corners and ride in deeper into the bend, having been bought up on the more technical tracks. Steadily improving and fair play to him. Hopefully he can find a PL spot when his Rising Star period ends. Off the bike he seems universally popular and a very good and interesting communicator. He and his brother were the stand out riders of the match and pushed all the way. Never came off or missed a heat so i was shocked to see he didn't attend last night. Edwards and Gilkes have been really mixing it every meeting now which is key for us in the play offs, if Pickering and Howarth show up on the same night we are unbeatable. same old story for Birmingham unfortunately not all 7 riders putting the needed points down for a win. Leon Flint should be beating Gilkes and Edwards on his own track he seems to be going backwards after a good start to the season. the track was shocking compared to earlier in the season the outside line just wasn’t there which resulted in poor racing 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

County Cricket was/is on it's ass a few years ago and still is, but the powers that be introduced Sunday League (40 Overs per side) many years ago, and over recent seasons have introduced even shorter versions ie "The Hundred" etc etc the recent shorter versions of the game of Cricket have seen it thrive worldwide. I think it's time the people that run Speedway in this country took a leaf out of Cricket's book and introduced a shorter version alongside the 4 lap formula, perhaps have 6 man teams as has been suggested, then mid meetings have the 6 riders by the tapes and have 6 x 1 lap dashes the winner 2 points,second 1 point 3/4th places 0 points, is that 3 races each ?, short and sharp to get the juices flowing anyways you get the idea.
