It would be really interesting to see what the reaction would have been if Hagon had been guesting for us and a similar incident had occurred. Some really blinkered, one sided supporters going about these days. As Paulco says, football type fans. How bloody arrogant and pompous. Let's go back to the good old days when 100 (older) people sat in a dilapidated stand and politely clapped. There are very few 'speedway' fans left. The days of visiting different tracks on a weekly basis and discussing the 'quality' of the racing and having a bevvy is long gone. But even back then you got disagreements and fans shouting at riders and referees. It was normal when there were big crowds. Look at some old videos of 'brilliant meetings' and you soon discover the racing was very average but the atmosphere was tremendous and the results sometimes unbelievable. The only way to increase crowds is to once again make it exciting, memorable and relevant and get people to buy into supporting a team. If that means booing the 'pantomime ' villain (Jack Millen anybody? ) then why not. It builds up atmosphere and gets kids to feel part of a 'team' and they then want to go again and bring their pals. Just go along and watch Glasgow Warriors rugby team who have steadily built up a strong and loyal following with lots of kids and guess what the players meet the fans after the match, pose for selfies, give autographs and every kid is wearing warriors tops, scarves, hats etc. Sound familiar?

I have a choice, I can go to Berwick, or I can go to Redcar (nearest tracks). I've been to both last season and this and prefer Redcar, although the racing isn't as good this season (from what I've seen at any rate). I hope to go to Workington at some point this season too, but, at the end of the day, I'd still prefer to be going to Brough Park on a Sunday evening. Berwick fans pay good money to watch the sport they love, the club have a duty to fans and riders to produce a track that creates racing. During the football season I could understand track preparation being harder to do due to access, but the season has been finished for 6 weeks and that track was pitiful. Yes they have to make do with the shape of the track but absolutely no excuse for a bare, bumpy, one line track. 2

No wonder nobody likes you Possibly to do with the fact he knew Harris was faster and gave him absolutely no racing room on the outside, as he confirmed he would do in the track walk before the meeting. Harris then had to move to the inside line to try and pass, he makes a clean pass with no contact and Kemp either was unable to adapt or decided to bale out at that point.

I was on trackstaff many moons ago and we had rakes to pull dirt back as there was always plenty from the fence across the track but that seems to be a thing of the past now. Last night was the first time i have ever left 3rd bend to sit in main stand due to the dust. It’s the way of things nowadays ,the riders want it slick. Its the fans that suffer. Its not the best Entertainment.

Sad loss to speedway indeed Enjoyed visits in past and seen some great meetings Track went off boil in recent seasons as you know, condition wise, but several guys could hack it whilst struggling at other places Max clegg one of those springing to mind
Bagpuss
4 hours ago, Fromafar said: The straights at Berwick are not narrow the entrance to the bends we’re widened a few seasons ago but unfortunately has not made much difference as there really is only one fast line into the bends(unless your Chris Harris who is just awesome round Shielfield). Most of the decent riders can ride the track and if are in the lead they are going that fast overtaking is at a premium.IMO. The racing line these days is on about metre from the fence it’s daredevil stuff to overtake.IMO.The track is FIM approved. Well agree to disagree. Have a look at Berwick on Google Earth compared to other circuits, and how close the riders all are to eachother across the start line. It's narrow IMO. WOW!!!……Yes, there’s always been booing and pantomime villains and I’ve been happy to be part of it…….but it was the unwarranted blinkered and aggressive reactions from some newbies I was alluding to. Didn’t mean to upset you……lol

Completely agree, correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the most publicised piece of media from last year, the Cookie and Basso Bust up. The excitement for the return leg when they were up against eachother, fans booing and cheering surely is what gives the meeting atmosphere. Comparing them to Football fans is a bit of a stretch, fans don't need to be separated by barriers or police officers and it's definitely not T-total at the speedway to stop any bust ups.
Shadders
8 hours ago, Bagpuss said: The Glasgow fans I've met are some of the nicest in speedway. If there was room for the straights to be twice as wide it'd be an awesome track, the entries and exits to what are pretty awesome bends are just too tight, its a shame. As for Berwick, their season looked pretty promising not that long ago but injuries have wrecked it, as well as Hume and Hodder going completely off the boil. Hume started the season well, Hodder hasn’t improved I’m afraid. Too slow from the gate

Sure it's been done when Redcar and Edinburgh have been there also. Probably makes more sense rotating the collection between the other local tracks. It probably helps the collection when you have as many injured riders also (only Danyon and Freddie not been injured I think). All others have withdrawn from a match this season.
