It definitely doesn't make BV look good! Polish team doesn't let riders out until it is safe. BV have a looser term to what is safe imo. Let's ask Tai if it makes BV look good :D

Indy 500 was delayed for around 4 hours on Sunday with a crowd of 300,000 in attendance, Cricket delayed and abandoned tonight. Speedway not the only shambles in town :D

Almost 3 million live within a 45 min drive...

If you cannot get 3,000 of them to attend (doesn't have to be the same 3,000 each week), then you might as well give up..

Just 0.1% of the populace...

Surely someone with a bit of capability in creating some hype could get more people there given the huge amount of potential?

And, given so few meetings now, even more of an opportunity to make every meeting a "stand alone" event..

People would prefer to go to United, City, County etc or the Palace, Opera House, Royal Exchange etc or Odeon, Cineworld, Everyman etc or Museums, Science, Manchester, War etc or Lowry, Whitworth, Manchester Art Gallery. The visit Manchester website lists nearly 500  things to do (of which speedway is one) but like I say people don’t like speedway so you can put any amount of glitter on this particular turd, you ain’t going to get the numbers needed. The tenth thing to do in Ipswich on the visit Suffolk website is “shop for a Suffolk souvenir”. This isn’t a dig at Ipswich but an indication what we’re up against.

The other thing to consider is people like to do nothing. Work, home, TV, bed, repeat.

They should promote it as a bank/school holiday thrill fest with goodies and baddies, thrills and spills in the same way as WWE because it has as much sporting credibility as WWE. The trouble is the powers that be still try to front us up as an actual sporting contest - with all the entertainment constraints attached - when it’s no such thing when you look how the rules are continually flouted and everyone competes for each other etc.

Motorbike racing in virtually the city centre...

What a concept....!!!!

Let's not tell anyone though....

Shush.....

As you say, sell the entertainment, and the riders personalities, rather than trying to make out what you are watching has any semblance of credibility as a bona fide sporting contest..

Give it a bit of hype and (even made up), rivalry and sell the product not the infrastructure around it..

Energetic promotion, great atmosphere, simple rules that don’t change everyday, no rain off’s, Not just 15 minutes of action BUT hours and hours play and interaction for a reasonable entrance price!!!!

The simple truth is todays Speedway Promoters in general are lazy people who can not be bothered to get off their backsides and drum up support.
At BV they have the best speedway track and stadium in the country BUT if you ask someone in Manchester where BV is or what’s speedway they haven’t got a clue. The promotion of BV and the sport is zero and that’s why speedway is where it is….basically bust!

Belle Vue need to…….

Have an advert on local radio over an extended period of time.

Have an advert in local newspapers over an extended period of time.

Have an advertising board on some of the busiest roads in Manchester.

Have posters in shops and businesses.

Had out flyers in local shopping areas.

Have a float or attend local fairs and carnivals.

Attend local trade shows.

Give out free tickets to schools and businesses.

Take bikes and merchandise into schools to accompany the talk they deliver on the sport.

Be featured on local tv news’s 4 or 5 times between March and October.

Get hours of live and prerecorded coverage on sports/terrestrial channels

Have a regular editorial in local papers.

Have a 30 minute highlights programme on a local tv satellite station.

Form a tie up with local groups and offer free entry and supporters club membership.

Attend (and hopefully win) local sports team of the year awards.

Just a start but if they did all that it would be just a case of counting the money - wouldn’t it?

Always thought that speedway teams should sponsor local football, cricket, rugby leagues etc etc..

Literally thousands of kids from age 8 to 16 playing each week in the locale..

Being watched by  thousands of parents..

A captured market...

Take a gazebo down wiith the club insignia on with a couple of riders and bikes, to the playing fields with dozens of matches on, on Saturday and Sunday, and dish out plenty of stickers, photos, pens, free/reduced tickets etc .

Most leagues have end of season prize givings with trophies being given out so sponsor that too...

Direct marketing to exactly the customer base you need to attract, for, relatively to its potential impact, little cost..

All sound sensible logical suggestions from both of you guys…you’d think all of these ideas would be implemented years ago, it’s not rocket science, just hard work and commitment….will any be taken up? No.
As far as BV, Lemon, apart from not being up the job, clearly isn’t bothered as he’s paid no matter what the crowd is, it’s not his money going down the drain. Speedway is a business, business is about making money and if you don’t make money you go bust and that’s where the sport is! And the blame lies squarely with is the people running the sport, full stop.
