I vaguely remember Doug Underwood being a bit of a magician at helping to get meetings at Reading on after heavy rain.

In the case of Vic, a long standing servant to Leicester speedway both as a rider & promoter. I remember after he had retired from racing he made a return at one of the end of season 2nd half "fun" events racing against other past riders...Unfortunately for Vic he fell off on the first bend. Think that was the last time he actually "raced".
condolences to families of both Doug & Vic.
RIP

I’m sure Doug was a nice guy but my lasting memory of him was him taking out his team mate Ray Wilson on the fourth bend at Blackbird Road. Poor Ray ended up on the dog track and then spent some time in hospital. Pretty sure Ray never represented the Lions again after that and then joined Birmingham. I think that Doug remained at Leicester for another season or so but would welcome any comments correcting my memories of events nearly 50 years ago!
