Sheffield v Leicester 23rd May

Recommended Posts

Battle of the big cats.  Ultimately the winner here though might be the weather if it continues like this into tomorrow, as we know that back straight at Owlerton floods pretty easy.

If the meeting is on will the Lions turn over the Tigers like last season at Owlerton? The Lions definitely have riders who can go good around Owlerton in Fricke, Lawson, Masters, and Douglas (all been frequent guests at Sheffield for home and away teams) in the past couple of seasons, Becker can be hit and miss at Owlerton but the trump card could be Kemp at reserve.

Sheffield will be hoping that Edwards is back racing, with Pickering (shoulder injury seeing specialist in Poland) and Gilkes (9 day concussion rule) both on the sidelines they’ll definitely needs a Rising Star guest and with only Birmingham not riding there’s not a lot to choose from guest wise for Pickering, so can only see the choice of an out of form Worrall or R/R (C Holder, Howarth and reserves eligible).  The powerhouse three of the Holder’s and Woffinden will need to be firing and Sheffield will be hoping that Howarth has managed to solve his speed issues out with good performance for Scunthorpe last Friday and Edwards can get in the points at home as struggled to date around Owlerton this season if they are to have a chance getting back to securing home wins.

Tight one again going for a home win 48-42

Schlien for Pickering and Mulford for Gilkes

One of the visits of Leicester in 2023 was an away win so be interesting to see how this one goes - Feel Leicester in with a chance but still expect the top three for the Tigers to win the meeting late on - if it goes ahead!

Thank you for starting this thread. There is still no preview for this on the Speedway GB or Lions website, only on the Sheffield site. I was going to highlight this apathetic approach to the Lions management………..but then couldn’t be arsed.

Rain supposedly to stop at 6 today and a 10% chance of rain tomorrow, so have a chance, however i can see an away win without Pickering

Just got back in from playing football - been raining throughout - looks like it might finally have stopped now! lets hope tomorrow is clear and dry

Err, its the second news feature on the home page and has been for over 24 hours.  If you looked you would have found it as you post is timed 12 hours after the meeting preview was uploaded. Previews on Speedway GB are uploaded on the morning of the meeting with the exception of some weekend meetings, but dont let facts stand in the way of a forum post.

R/R for Jack Holder tonight as his partner has given birth to their first child, congrats to them both.  With Jack being number 1 in the Sheffield average all remaining 6 riders eligible to take one of his rides

Must win meeting for Leicester if they want to make the play-offs.

They're fighting for 4th place with Oxford imo and tonight is a golden opportunity for the Lions to pick up a win on the road against a weakened side that they wouldn't have stood a chance against had they been at full strength.

Busy night in store for Noddy and Woffy.

The Lions must and should be looking for a win here. They won’t have many better chances.

A loss here and I can see them missing the play offs with opportunities like this.

Leicester will smell blood and I expect their Management get them fired up.

For Sheffield we need to keep it as tight as possible, Tai and Chris Holder will need to be at their very best, and if we are going to lose we need to keep it as tight and lose by the smallest margin and take it to a super heat so we get something out of the meeting.

And we desperately need Kyle Howarth to put in a performance, and Jason Edwards needs a big performance.

Rory Schlein as a guest has me worried, never been totally convinced in him around Sheffield.

But Leicester will be thinking that they have a great chance to take the win and they will be up for it.
