Tapes up start time on Bspa website says 2.15pm, not 2.30pm. I was at the meeting, and think if it had started at the said tapes up time of 2.15pm maybe 2 more heats could have been raced. Not a Witches fan, or a Stars fan, but a Speedway Fan.
Panthers99
Even the advert says 1415pm.... why not just say 1430pm then.... I'm not a fan so unaware of the unofficial ruling that pushes the start back by 15 minutes. Funnily enough, I see 1415pm and make sure I'm there in good time to not miss anything.

It was never “tapes up” at 2.15. It’s a start time of 2.15, just as it’s a start time of 7.30 on Thursday evenings, meaning parade 7.30 first race 7.45. It was, and has always been, 2.15 parade and 2.30 first race on Bank Holidays.

ArchiePelago
The usual folk complaining about what they wouldn't have done. Sadly, these are usually those who never 'DO' themselves. One day they will fall out of their armchair still clutching their social media link to the world. 1

It’s fairly standard for the start time to be before the first race normally due to the parade of riders - I will be at Owlerton (weather permitting) on Thursday the meeting starts at 7.30 and I know the first race is about 10-15 minutes after that! I’ve no idea what the BSPA website says. Ipswich have advertised their meetings as a 7.30 start since I first went over 40 years ago. Same as Bank Holiday meetings, always been advertised as a 2.15 start. That is for the parade, it always has been it’s nothing new.

I thought that was standard practice everywhere to be honest! Obviously not it seems! If a meeting was advertised as 7.30 and you got in dead on 7.30 and the riders were at the tapes, you’d get some moaning that they’d missed the parade! I’ve looked and the the meeting preview for Sheffield V Belle Vue it does say 7.30 - however in the lower down part of the page page it does say tapes up I feel that should say meeting start time! That’s the BSPA to my mind

Completely agree with this. I understand the whole ‘15 minutes for rider intro’s’ if it’s gloriously sunny, but I got there before 14:15 expecting the first heat to be at that time due to the predicted forecast. There could easily have been 3 more heats within that time, and the rider introductions really have no bearing on me as a fan (and if you weren't a fan then you wouldn't have a clue what ‘normally’ happens anyway!) I’ve been to plenty of meetings home & away where these have been cut short so that the racing starts more promptly, and I feel like today’s meeting is one that would have benefited.
SPEEDY69
Amazing that even after being told some people still seem to think they could have started heat 1 earlier I'm amazed that such little rain caused the call off - not even any puddles and I wouldn't describe it as 'hard'. It spitted for a while and rained for 5-10 mins after they'd done extra track work, which took 15 minutes at least. Riders don't seem to like any wet track any more - Colin cook was in the crowd and I bet he couldn't believe it Those with experience/skill handled it fine, Iversen, Doyle, Nicholls, MPT, Emil but others were woeful, such as Klindt, who looked like a novice! Sun came out about half an hour later, typical. Edited May 6 by SPEEDY69
