The last young Australian I can remember having that immediate wow factor on his first laps of the Ashfield track was Darcy Ward I think I might have been standing next to you that day. Broke the track record in heat one didn't he?

I too would have preferred to see Harris and Cook going toe-to-toe in the opening heat, but what’s the referee guilty of? Implementing the rule book? In response to your first sentence, I paid to get in and was cheesed-off that Cook withdrew from the tapes as the other three were poised to begin. An entirely correct exclusion. That's a great response, not fair to blame the ref for following the rules.

topaz325
Charles Wright excluded today at Workington in a similar way that Cookie was last night, refs seem to be firm on start times, which is fine as long as they are all consistent .

In such a tiny sport where the result wont resonate past a few thousand at best, the entertainment factor is paramount.. "He pulled away from fhe tapes, he should be excluded, hooray he is!! Great! That's that race knackered"...

I’m afraid this debate appears to be between defined reality and your deluded utopia. 1

He delayed it with agreement of both teams, which showed both good sportsmanship and consideration for everyone who had paid to see it.

Only after Edinburgh agreed to it first ,you missed this important part out. If Edinburgh insisted it started on the scheduled start time it would have. If three riders were at the tapes at 7:30pm Harris would've been disqualified. It was agreed to delay the meeting for fifteen minutes, so the problem never arose of him delaying the start of the race.

It was also in the Edinburgh programme that Alan Dick phoned the Edinburgh ProMotion earlier in the day to warn them about the problems on M6 and let their riders know if any were travelling that way.So perhaps there was Co-operation between Promotions given the circumstances.

Actually It was young Pearson ( not Tate ) who broke the track record in his very first race for Glasgow, which was his first win for Glasgow and it was against Edinburgh and was a 5:1 with Bomber.
