kelvinht
The meeting moved along at a good pace, but I apologise for heat 15. All my fault as I said to my mate we'd done well to get to heat 15 by 9.10pm after delayed start. Cue a fall and two false starts!

Those two 'easier' matches would have sharpened us up before BV and Sheffield matches and may well have meant we would have beaten BV the other night I agree. Lets hope some riders get dialled in ASAP. Toby, Paddy, MPT and NKI are falling short early doors.. I'm sure Toby will be fine, as will Paddy W. We need a 6 point average from MPT and 7 for NKI, over the season. As i said in an earlier post, i will judge them after 5 meetings. It don't seem long, but if you want to actually compete for top 4, it's a good chunk out of the league matches... With the teams so close, you need to be ruthless if you really want to compete Edited April 13 by Bald Bloke

Seeing g as four of those first five meetings are against BV & Sheffield (and the other match away from home) judging them after five might mean things are a bit skewed, as they might be had we predominantly faced Oxford, Brum and Leicester but in the other direction. I think Rob Lyon will be less tolerant of poor form this year but at the same time I cant see changes being made too early either. Interesting that he has said recently that Ben Cook and Chris Harris were two that got away a bit over the winter, you wonder how different things might look had they been signed....I reckon we'd be more highly fancied. Ovalman
Early days, but Belle Vue, Sheffield, and Ipswich with their 2 big hitters looking good.

Yep.. I see where your coming from Baggy. It has been a tough start, with the 2 home rain offs. I wont be to harsh. It could give a slightly false impression after the first 5 meetings. As long as we can keep it close away, we could pick up a few agg points in the returns. Harris and Lawson verbally agreed to ride here this season, early doors, only to change their minds. If my sums are correct, they would of just fitted for NKI and Tofty. Title winning side there imho. If only..... I’d bet no team actually track a 1-7 they originally pencil in, and end up drafting from their B and C lists. Riders change their minds all over the shop, especially when they get better offers obviously. Clubs themselves do likewise. Only way to stop that happening is to get signatures on paper rather than verbal agreements.

I always imagine the winter being fun and games with clubs and riders having chats left right and centre, and both clubs and riders withdrawing various verbal agreements when other options come into play. I expect they all know how the system works and it's just a game that has to be played with everyone getting a spot when everything has settled down. I know its early days( 2 meetings). For me, it's just that I'm so keen for this team to do well this season. There was a good crowd at the AFA on Thursday. Winning teams attract better crowds, which we desperately need, after the dwindling crowds of the last few years. We only lost at Leicester by 5 points, with Toby and NKI scoring 5 points each. We where 4 points up at home to BV after 12 heats, and lost by 6. Toby 7, NKI 4, Patryk 2. I know the riders are trying their best, and might be a bit rusty, but we wasn't far off of getting something from those 2 meetings. It frustrated me, im sure Rob would feel the same. Lets get some more meetings under our belt, and see how we are doing. Edited April 15 by Bald Bloke

Great post agree with everything you said especially getting frustrated when we could have got something from the first two meetings and didn’t but I only see the team improving as the season progresses. Having said that I feel it’s going to be difficult making the play-offs as Ipswich, Belle Vue and Sheffield are going to take some beating so making sure we take the other 6 bonus points off Oxford,Leicester and Birmingham is going to be vitally important for our chances.
