TV coverage for 2024

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if Eurosport are covering the Premiership this year?

I know BSN are and the season starts next week but no sign of any speedway on Eurosport this month.

They are, but probably not until May based on last year’s coverage. It was only 10 meetings plus the playoffs.

I think end of April has been mentioned... with a break for the Olympics

1st eurosport meeting is Birmingham / Aces on mon 14th april

I'm sure Tatum said on his podcast the other day,the first league meeting televised on Eurosport is indeed Birmingham v Belle Vue on the 29th of April,a couple of days after the first Gp.

According to the folks on BSN, Eurosport are showing 18 fixtures over the season

Its always been 18-19 fixtures whether its Eurosport, BT Sports or Sky!!

The difference this season is the slightly earlier start (April rather than May), possibly because this summer there are the Euros and the Olympics!

Not sure Brum the place to run the first meeting from..

Might impact the crowd...

Unless of course they are planning to go BIG on the promotional side of it to sell their club to a wider audience...

Big crowd, and a good impression to any watching local people who may take a watching glance at the sport..

I can well understand why Eurosport, or any TV company, wants to stay clear of early fixtures and that is the weather. Far too many meetings early and a some later in the season are called off because of the weather and setting up equipment and staff for a rained off meeting is just a pain and unwanted expense. I remember many years ago watching the Norwich Stars at the Firs, when the track appeared to be affected less by the rain than the present tracks do and the bikes and riders seemed to cope much better, no deflectors on the bikes and the riders did not have the sophisticated helmets and goggles/visors they have now. Yes we did still have rained off meetings but usually when it had been heavy rain all day and not just a little shower. Usually when we have the driest summer weather speedway takes a break.

Speedway also needs to do something to improve the drainage and the track surface so that fewer meetings have to be called off.

Bit baffling why the Aces are featured 3 times in the first 2 months. They arent that strong this year although the Bewley factor could have something to do with it.

Oxford also featured 3 times but as new to the league and having Janowski is a much more attractive reason to feature them.
