Fortythirtyeight Posted January 30 Report Share Posted January 30 Sign of the times as it looks like all teams are struggling to put a team together with Redcar having to name a rider on a 125 whos never even been in a race never mind a team ( but good luck to Seb ) . Disappointing to see Douglas still in the NJL after around 4 or 5 years hanging around the NDL but if he still wants to ride and nobody in the NDL/ NTL(?) wants to use him I suppose thats his only option. With Edinburgh leading the way and Glasgow now having a training track hopefully things will improve. There could be a huge discrepancy between the 500 riders in terms of experience but the 125’s have had that for a while so let’s see what happens. Looking at youth get together at northside it seems strange clubs have difficulty getting 125cc riders to turn up judging by the number of youngsters, however, parents are the drivers, mechanics and everything else and as much as clubs treat them with contempt the parents will select what meetings they attend and the league system will suffer, only way to improve things is for clubs to stop burying their heads in the sand Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Of course some clubs don't bother sorting anything out which must be even more frustrating. Just to say Owen has never been treat with contempt at any club doing second halfs he has always been welcomed Before Owen was working money was an issue as diesel and bike cost do make it hard for a normal family but we rode when possible. this year is looking sparse for him at the moment but I'm sure he will be welcomed for second half racing . However we did put the hard yards in only missed one meeting during our time with them due to being in Glasgow hospital. I was talking about the fact that they want riders to travel north and it’s a long way to lots of them and they are rushed on at the end of a meeting that has meandered on in a time constrait which is ridiculous and everyone knows it and if it’s too late they just say sorry but it’s off, and that’s happened plenty (Berwick twice in our case) in one month and it’s 4.5 hours and 300 miles home without the journey up, anyway you reap what you sow and it’s going over old ground which I’m sure nobody is interested in Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

When I rode in the very early 80’s it was exactly the same so a little unfair to blame the current northern tracks, especially Berwick, who have always done their best for youngsters even without running a NJL side of late. Diamonds85 Posted 22 hours ago Report Share Posted 22 hours ago When I rode in the NJL we had a meeting at Berwick where I really struggled to ride the track. But once the meeting was over we were allowed to keep riding until the curfew as there was still 30 mins to go. Although the Berwick lads were reluctant to give us help during the main NJL meeting (understandably) when we were out at the end, all of the Berwick lads were giving us tips on how to ride the place, and I tell you, it was a lot easier!! 3rd bend you've got to throw it in deep and go all the way to the fence and then cut back going into bend 4 and make a long straight. If you enter bend 3 tight, which is what I was doing, you run out of room coming off bend 4 and hit the home straight fence. I've always appreciated Berwick for taking the time to help develop us young riders and letting us ride for 30 minutes after the NJL meeting had finished.
