mikebv
There is no doubt that the overall four meeting package is "just about ok' for the standing option.. (Not quite sure the same for sitting)... However. The factor that is the main gamble for the four meeting option is that it only really favours Aces and maybe Sheffield fans.. (About 3500 max between them in total if they all turn up.) For everyone else, 90 mins plus away from the track, four trips there and back wont be something to look forward to and will cost a fair few quid in transport costs.. And for those further afield, the inevitable hotel costs will be another "big outlay"... Going to be a tough sell I feel, but hopefully wrong.. Me and my lad will go to the final and watch the rest on TV.. £180 or so for both of us for all the meetings and we would have gone to all four.. The last time it was just two meetings, and, to be fair, the price per meeting isn't that much more.. But. Getting enough to fork out for all four to make the first 3 meetings look good in TV will be the main challenge..

I went to SWC in Wroclaw last year (incredible trip, would highly recommend) and the two semis and race off were pretty poor by what I had expected from that track but apparently it was to preserve the track for the final. I don't know if that's true, but if it is then is the NSS in a similar situation?

The problem is every meeting has a practise same day so thats equivalent of 8 meetings over 4 days which is a lot of wear on the track.

For that reason I don't know why they only use one track. I would think they'd get more fans if it was held at different tracks as you'd get 2 or more sets of "home" fans attending, rather than some just attending the final?

But a best pairs on a track not really suited for team riding, where the rider in second doesn't need to try to pass they guy winning, might not be as great a spectacle. crescent girl
Here’s something just in: A good friend, who had been planning to take a party of friends to the Speedway of Nations event at Belle Vue in July, now finds they cannot make it. They had early-booked three rooms in the Travelodge at Warrington Lowton for Friday, July 12th (although the SoN is spread over most of the week, the big nights are the Friday and Saturday, so staying overnight on Friday was the obvious plan). The bookings are for standard Travelodge rooms, the place is about 17 miles from Belle Vue – and comprise two twin rooms, each £30, plus a triple room at £36. Why tell you all this? Well, these are paid-for at early-bird prices, the Manchester area is swamped by a lot more than speedway that weekend and if you were thinking about making the Friday/Saturday meetings, to book Friday-night accommodation even now, a couple of months before the meetings, would be much, much pricier. Thus, and this is where. we cut to the commercial: Our friend is willing to pass these rooms (one, two or all three) at cost to any supporters who might want to be down at the SoN and might think about the Friday night stopover. Get this, they might even be prepared to cut an even-better deal if you ask nicely! To enquire, discuss, or make an offer, phone 07503-540236. First come, first served....... topaz325
Mark lemon in the SS this week , an article about the high prices at the SON due to operating costs of over £500000.00, also said they will be lucky to break even. Looking to possibly hold another GP event in the future at Belle vue.

I can see that getting there requires a significant investment and therefore the SON tickets are higher than we'd like. But I hope they don't think that this sets a norm for future events. I'm sitting on the first bend at Cardiff this year for £18

THE DEAN MACHINE
If the ticket prices weren’t enough then the car parking is the straw that broke the camels back, think it’s time we got rid of discovery, with their half arsed approach to the sport, awful camera work and their totally out of touch with reality approach to pricing, we need and deserve better

mikebv
I presume that means £11.50 per meeting if you go to all four??? Forty six quid if so!!!! Edit Loads of tickets left... Not sure they will need the extra seating... When do they officially get worried about the uptake in seats? Edited June 12 by mikebv

Even Wrocław last year was mostly empty for the semi finals and raceoff, the whole of the back straight was closed and the main stand not full. I’m thinking the semi finals this year will be the same, with a very slight upturn for the SoN2

Certainly no FOMO when you watch something with swathes of empty seats...
