No Rob. They would have filled empty seats which generate zero money. Rather bums on seats for £30 than a seat sitting empty. The club knew the attendance was dire but didn’t go pro-active to do something about it last week or this.

How could they do something about it?  They couldn't offer cheap tickets without refunding the ones already sold.  IMO it was too expensive, but you can't just cut prices???

Why do teams have to choose gates 1 and 3 or 2 and 4?

Why can't you choose gates 1 and 4 or gates 2 and 3?

Um, the same reason you change ends at half-time, or the reason you bowl one over from one end, and the next from the other.

Simple for a non-loony to grasp...

It's often been called a mickey mouse sport. So it stands to reason it would be a mickey mouse cup

Even Poland has a mickey mouse team

So there it is we just have to live with these things

We certainly have a lot of Mickey Mouse fans...

Get In !  Now THAT'S Rock And Roll !:D  No one can say they didn't deserve it, no one stopped or fell in their races they had to really race hard & Aussies certainly don't ever just lie down, esp when it's v Us Pomms.  When Woffy crashed in the GP I thought "Oh, no here we freakin' go again !", but Robert & Dan did it.  Good on them.  Believe me, people it means waay more when it's your team and / or your country.  Loved it, I'm smiling (for once some might say !) :D....

It's a bit like Djokovic not playing Wimbledon.

Why would he play Wimbledon? That's for teams like Notts County and Accrington Stanley.

Great meeting! Great result! Great Britain!

Biggest disappointment for me was seeing the temporary stand with what looked like <100 people

Apparently Discovery insisted that Belle Vue must pay for the temporary stand if they wanted the final.

Of course they can. They can charge what they like when they like. No different from buying a plane flight ticket, which varies every time you log on and look. My mate paid £245 and a week later I got the seat next to him for £85. Way it goes.

Re costing to hold such meetings…. If the FIM wants world championships in places other than mainland Europe they should have to cover costs….excess costs especially. Belle Vue is an exceptional race track…… IMO one of the top 3 in the world.  It’s worthy of holding world class meetings.  If because temp stands have to be erected then some governing body should be on the boil and cough up to cover at least losses.
This week there were over 90 fast races on the BV track, poor weather conditions too, yet the track held up, no rutting at all, that is quiet an achievement….. well done to all the staff that prepped the track and kept in racing condition. Accolades must go  to Chris Morton for all the years he (and others) stuck to the dream and battled their way through Manchester Council for them to fund the stadium. Such a shame that the very first meeting back in 2016, the Peter Craven Memorial Trophy, had to be cancelled because of errors caused by contractors, leading to a big financial loss to Mort that was going to be tough to sort.  And just think, when you saw an aerial view of the new stadium and close surrounding area you could see the places that The Hyde Road track, in existence before the 2nd world war, the greyhound stadium track (never liked it) and the NSS occupied or did occupy, all within a few hundred metres. A lot of speedway history in Manchester indeed.

Hope it doesn’t affect the clubs viability. That stand would have cost tens of thousands.

Poole held the World Cup in 2004. They had temp stands on three and four. The place was absolutely packed to the rafters. Racing was sensational. (The Havvy v Polish rider one of the many highlights)

BV have a great track but Manchester is not a hotbed of speedway and no one would go there out of choice.

Why don’t you shut the f up and bore off with your ‘Poole are the best’ mantra

You are a troll of the highest order and it’s impossible to have a good speedway meeting on the crap track you have to watch every week…….

If you get your kicks out of trolling you are very sad

As somebody who is a finance professional, I would point out that your tactic of cutting prices at the last minute would kill ticket sales for next year.

People would wait until the end to buy tickets. It would also damage trust between organisers and loyal fans.

My opinion is that the issue wasn't the ticket prices. The issue is the product.

If you add in Team Russia with Emil & Artem, I suspect the rest of the grandstand would have been sold out.

Sounds like they were trying to get the fans to pay for the Temporary Stand that has been rumoured Discovery insisted on and GB Speedway had to pay for.

Super Bewley, and Shovlar wanted him replaced by Brennan earlier!

You are talking about a man who knows sod all about the sport … only knows what happens at Poole

Cant think who Brennan rides for hmmm

Im only surprised the pillock didn’t want Lawson in the team or even back in the day Kyle Newman as he did beat Tai once when riding for Poole … take what he says with a pinch of salt

Can we leave the arguing about ticket sales till tomorrow and celebrate Team GB being Champions and a great night's speedway.

Unfortunately not when you have a Poole moron thinking he knows better than anyone
