Why would you stop going just because they don't race as often as you want them too? Are people really saying "I want to watch 20/25 matches a year, it's not worth going if there's only 10/15"? If there are enough blank weeks, people find other things to do. Gradually, they take priority. People like rhythms. Speedway is just too sporadic for some now. Or they just don't know when it's on!
Chairboy
If there are blank weeks, people find other things to do? Personally, I've never understood this argument. I actually think this is a throwback to when speedway promoters shared greyhound stadiums (some still do of course) and they would see a sign outside saying something like "greyhound racing here every Tuesday and Saturday". Speedway promoters wished they could put up a similar sign for our sport. Do football fans have this problem? They just keep an eye on their club's fixture list on turn up when the matches are on. I've never found it difficult to do that for speedway.

Totally agree, for example what to Edinburgh & Glasgow fans do to occupy their Friday nights between October / November & March / April, they obviously have to find something else to do. Yet they don't stop coming the following season because they've found a new past time.

Generally speaking crowds seem to go down year on year rather than up.

Otherwise every sport that has an "off season" would lose some of their crowd because they found other things to do. Doesn't seem to happen to Premiership football. Now I think of it, Polish Extraliga clubs only have 7 home league meetings each year. Topped up with U24 racing etc. British fans probably get more league racing than any other country to watch. j2ohh
not too sure if this has been mentioned before . what about having a home meeting pne week and the following week have an away meeting with another club ? clubs would prob get 2/3 meetings at nome a month . this would/could put an end to those 3/4 weeks without haveing a home meeting . the season could be streatched out to fit in cup meetings and other stuff . just a thought . 1

Football clubs might not be at home every week, or exactly every second week, but they also don't go five weeks without a home match. Except for Dundee, of course.
Chairboy
I know no-one on this site is interested in my private life, but I had a similar problem with Liz Hurley and Kate Moss a few years ago. They used to turn up on my doorstep whenever it suited them, at random times every few weeks, for 'a cup of tea and a chat'. It was very inconvenient. I told them both...Oi! NO! Either you turn up every Wednesday at 7pm without fail or it's no deal.

Nor two in each of Apr, May and Jun, three if you include not running the Friday of the U21 Final (Sunday). August isnt any better with a further two blanks, one for Edinburgh away, the other for the Cardiff GP. The net result is another three week gap between home meetings just like in July.
