Ten years ago, Glasgow raced on a Sunday and you knew there would be a meeting most Sundays with an occassional blank Sunday (although usually due to the weather).  Now its a case of trying to figure out which Fridays have meetings rather than which dont.  You need some sort of continuity.  As for those suggesting join the NDL to fill in the gaps, you can tell from the numbers that turn out to recent and previous neutral, qualifying or Junior events that the fans wont come out and support it

More fool those who don't turn up to see NDL NJL, U21s etc.

There's plenty of young talented lads out there who just need tracktime.

I'll put my head above the parapet and say if the British U21 final was at Oxford the crowd would be 1K plus. Admittedly Oxford have a lot of speedway starved fans within a 50 mile radius. But I reckon there's a fair few CL clubs who'd like our crowds at NDL level.

Last year at workington was so.e of the most entertaining speedway I've watched in years

My poor old mate (rip) always said national league was much better

Not as fast or not as many outstanding riders

But because it was closer and more equal machinery the entertainment was better

Unfortunately he died before workington started back up hopefully he's looking down every week and can see how good a job workington have done

Decent afternoon for two Glasgow riders in Poland today, Leon Flint scored 7+1 and James Pearson scored 13 in Czestochwa`s 54-36 home win against Leszno.

Congratulations james and Leon, good points.

May be we should try a junior event on a Friday to see what the turn out would be. Is it the Sunday afternoon race day or the standard of the meeting that is putting supporters off? What crowds do they get at Armadale for NDL meetings?

Finances probably dictate Attendances for Families. Also travel cost if your are not local.Berwick gave it a good go in NDL don’t think crowds were great though given the Team they had .Lot of organising to not not any money.

So all the money that the promotion are spending on a training track to actually encourage young kids to try speedway your just saying forget it kids until someone might become a reasonable rider we don’t care and won’t come and watch!! Thanks for your support

Thanks for your aggressive reply and incorrect assumptions.  All I did was state facts - mine were factual, unlike yours

As you know, I always did cover the junior meetings Triple H and I loved them.  Unfortunately though we are in the minority which is why I dont think also running NDL would keep people going regularly every Friday.

Bierao I wouldnt have a clue about the attendance at Armadale for NDL meetings, hopefully one of the Edinburgh people or NDL reps could give an answer.

I dont think, in my opinion, that its the race day putting people off.  Most people were all for Glasgow moving to the Friday night and night time racing.  I think the problem is a set up where clubs go weeks without fixtures and fans cant say 'we race on Xday, lets go along' is the issue but as I say thats only my opinion

Right now it would seem that the junior league is the only stepping stone between the training track and our Championship side. Whether thats too big a step is certainly a fair question and an NDL side would certainly be one way to bridge it. However it may be costly and may also be an obstacle to rearranging Championship fixtures.

Looking at the July averages Eric Riss would be available on a 6.45 converted average for the Championship.

Be interesting to see if any Championship club can sign him.

I've heard he's not interested in signing a Championship contract, although that's a much better average than last month, so maybe someone might twist his arm.

Progression

Amateur/NJL

NDL

Championship

Premiership

World Stage

That's what IMO what every team should be looking to

I accept that would be a perfect situation but where is the money coming from? With riders desperate to scurry off to Poland in search of the big money, what is the incentive on teams to invest in young riders?

As with football, there needs to be a trickle down of cash from top to bottom to help fund the future. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem there’s any spare cash at the top so this isn’t going to happen.
Rider development will therefore continue to be a selfish activity with those willing and able to provide training facilities expecting to be rewarded either through using the riders they “develop” or signing them up then selling or loaning them.

Congratulations to Chris Harris who became European Grasstrack Champion last night.

Remember when quite a few of us on here (myself included) were sceptical about Chris signing at the start of last season... He's been absolutely incredible

Especially after leading heat1 and having bike trouble then pushing over the line for a point
