Plymouth Gladiators 2024

Recommended Posts

The reality and the shame of this forum is sooner or later clubs will close down and so will speedway.

The sooner people on this forum realise that they could build the sport up (admittedly only a tiny bit) but every little helps.

This is spot on and something I've referenced many times on here before. The sniping doesn't do anything but damage unfortunately. Speedway is a sport that is struggling right now outside the Premiership and having listened to Mark Lemon the other week suggesting Belle Vue need to kick on and make big events (Like the SoN) a success otherwise they're not sure how much longer they can sustain the National Stadium, that should be a big warning to everyone, if we actually needed it just the position of speedway in the UK in general

We need everyone working together and on the same page to help the sport out, not constantly running clubs down when they're trying their best, often with little financial reward at the end of it.

  • 2 weeks later...

Another headache now with Dan Thompson needing time for his dislocated shoulder (sustained in SON2) to heal.

They could start by pricing the SoN appropriately and making it remotely attractive to fans. Its not a GP so automatically draws less interest. The backstraight and bend 3/4 temporary stand may be a bit sparse this evening.

They could also be lobbying behind the scenes to get the rights to the British GP and get it out of Cardiff where its become long term, a non-event racing wise. How long it can continue financially is unknown but it needs re-invented at a new venue IMO, and not another temporary track. Manchester would be just the place.

Lovely track, but can't guarantee the weather is going to play ball, as has happened this week

Thats true but the crowds have stopped turning out at Cardiff and it must cost a 7 figure sum to rent, lay a temp track, lift it again days later and clean the stadium down from dust.

There comes a critical point where its just not financially viable anymore and an alternative needs to be found.

As probably anticipated, Covatti out for the season.

Inevitable unfortunately. Such a weird incident as well for it to happen on the start line. When he came over to the Gladiators fans on Bend 2 on Wednesday you could tell very quickly it was a bad one. Shame that it hasn't worked out.

He came back way too quick from those bad breaks.

As much stick Plymouth get for Kennett gate they've not had much luck with all the no1's they've signed recently have getting pretty badly hurt . Unless R Worrall makes a comeback I can't see him being replaced.

You're right about replacing him, I just can't invisage there's anyone out there who'd be able to replace him this late in the season. I would imagine where possible, Batchelor will be top of the list to guest at home but away it may well have to be R/R. Can't go around just throwing money at guests anymore. Time to look ahead to next season imo

Depends how many Saturdays you have for home meetings as don't forget Worky ride Saturday as well. Though they are not riding this Saturday. However looks like the rain will win that one!

Having seen the weather forecast for Plymouth, they've made 100% the right decision to call it off. Heavy rain most of they day. Then still rain due during the match.

It's pouring down atm, crazy weather it was hot and sunny yesterday!

Start of the main English Schools 6 weeks holiday - what do you expect...

Rain and more Rain!

The M5 will be a grid locked Car Park all day anyway, so saved anyone travelling down from Midlands a journey from hell!

Who? Weather forecast and Batchelor unavailable!!

I’ve just seen a duck swim past and he’s complaining about how deep the puddles are. 100% the correct decision to stop unnecessary travelling.

People’s cynicism at times is baffling. The rain was consistent throughout the night, as someone who’s been awake since 3am I can vouch for that and it’s become torrential in this city this morning and isn’t relenting.

If you want proof, get online later and check the cricket scores for East Cornwall and Devon… if you see a ball bowled west of Taunton today you should go and buy a lottery ticket!
