He's had how many seasons at Wolverhampton though? I thought that was the point of him signing for them? I'm sure he'll continue developing, but he looks more like a Tom Brennan type level than world class.

Brennans not great and Flint isnt even as good as him.

For the sake of his career developing, surely Leon has to get experience at another track next season.

I don't know why that would have to include leaving Berwick though. Could get a new track in the Prem & race in the U24 league in Poland, so will have 3 home tracks.

Trying to get my head around Leon has to leave Berwick to further develop his career. He has had 15 home meetings at one of the most technical tracks Wolverhampton, and 10 at Berwick plus Under 24 meetings in Poland. Basically he had had the best of both worlds a smaller technical track in 1 League and Berwick in the Championship. If Birmingham move up wouldn't surprise me to see Leon there a team he has ridden for in the past.

Personally think Leon best track is Berwick like you  say he has been at Wolves long enough  and in Poland to develop into a better rider all round. He’s probably not far off his level. IMO.

IMO Leon Flint has a decision to make, where does he see himself in 5-6 seasons time. If he wants to be in the argument for representing Team GB on a regular bases and knocking on the door of the big meetings around Europe, SEC possibly SGP Challenges then he must leave Berwick. He has done his bit as local rider but now needs to move onto further his career, if, on the other hand he wants a comfortable career where his team place is completely safe but his level is where he is at now, then he will stay at Berwick, maybe even signed up for next year already.

The likes of Robert Lambert and Dan Bewley should be his example.

You need big Sponsors too get decent equipment to be able to compete in Poland. There are dozens of young Poles and other Nationalities coming through over there getting Team place will be difficult. The only advantage of leaving Berwick is that free’s up his weekends. He’s earned most of his British money riding at Berwick over the seasons, his away form has not really improved.IMO.

He's not a Lambert or a Bewley though.

I liken him to Lewis Kerr who is good enough to ride in both leagues but is not really a heat leader in either of them.

Lewi Kerr has an 8.60 average for Oxford and is 2nd in their averages, ahead of Scott Nicholls.  I reckon that makes him a Championship heat leader.

You inevitably become too comfortable in your own surroundings..

The Aussies come half way around the globe and head to Britain, Poland or Sweden..

No surprise that a fair proportion of those that do it, go on to a much higher level than their UK counterparts...

The Poles usually stay put and develop, but they run the risk of losing a team place if they don't perform, given the potential over there of so many, hence they either develop upwards or disappear quickly from the upper echolons....

Etheridge very good in the final tonight - no doubt about that, but I can’t be the only one who wouldn’t go anywhere near him when it comes to building our team for next season.

He’s been a decent servant for Berwick but if you want to go and win trophies you can’t have him in your 1-5, especially away from home where he is woeful.

thoughts?
