Tai Woffinden may have serious problems after Friday's knockdown of one of the Fogo Unia Leszno fans. The fan who stepped on the seat belt has a broken arm. The League Adjudication Committee, and possibly the police, is to deal with the matter immediately.

Even on Friday, many fans treated the whole thing as a joke, but Tai Woffinden  may not be laughing in a moment. Fogo Unia Leszno  sided with its fan and demands severe penalties. A similar opinion is shared by some fans and speedway activists. Not only financial penalties are possible, but even suspension of the player for several matches.

Let us remind you that just after the hit match between Fogo Unii Leszno and Betard Sparta Wrocław (48:42), one of the home fans was so happy with the victory that he jumped out of his sector and ran straight to the visiting team's sector. There he waved a scarf and provoked Sparta fans. He was unlucky, because at the same moment her players appeared under the sector of their fans. Tai Woffinden didn't think long and seeing the fan's behavior, he threw him to the ground. The impact was so strong that, as confirmed by the Union authorities, the fan now has a broken arm. Only then did security personnel react and take care of the fan.

There have never been such scenes in PGE Ekstraliga yet, and the competition authorities take safety at stadiums very seriously and make sure that the speedway league is associated with a family atmosphere. The behavior of the British spoils their work and therefore there are many indications that they will decide to punish him exemplary.

The possible suspension of the speedway rider will affect not only him, but also his club, which is preparing for the most important matches in the play-offs. Suspending Woffinden for more than one match would seriously undermine the team's chances of reaching the semi-finals and could contribute to a gigantic surprise. Sparta is the most serious candidate for the championship title.

However, this may be just the beginning of the problems, because the case can also be dealt with by the Leszno police. So far, however, we have not been able to contact the spokesperson of the KMP in Leszno, so it is not known whether the officers are already taking any action in this matter.

How many times have we witnessed riders racing with broken collar bones/wrists and finding out the following day it’s broken?! Not saying it is broken as it was in a news report.

I can’t help but think what the reaction to this would be if it had been Nicki P that did this - the internet would have blown up!

I think that there has to be some punishment as I have said yes the fan was in an area he shouldn’t be and we don’t know what was said. But you can’t have riders assaulting people like this it sends out the wrong signals. If this happened anywhere else it would not be acceptable.

Don’t really know what Woffy was thinking, the other Wroclaw  riders were having a laugh about it and certainly weren’t upset with the fan.

No quotes from anyone, just an opinion piece.

I'm surprised they didn't mention Leszno should also be fined and some meetings be run behind closed doors due to their failure to protect riders and fans. Negligence should be a harsh penalty.

Tai goes to jail, the poor guy with a broken arm gets a pay day and Leszno are immediately demoted is the only fair outcome here.

I think it fair to say that there is fault on both sides. The fan should not have been there and Tai should have left it to the security.

What I think could count against him is that his body language betrays that he did it to make a point. You can see him and the other riders grinning and laughing about before and after.

At best it was a prank that went wrong but it cant hide the fact that as a sportsman in the public eye he was wrong and those on this and other forums defending him by saying he was defending himself and the fan may have had a bomb etc have lost the plot. (Reminds me awfully of those Michael Jackson fans that will say anything to defend the fallen pop star)

If the other bloke has ended up with a broken arm it's unfortunate but if you're in an area you shouldn't be and trying to provoke the opposition supporters, then it's your own fault. A bit stupid from Woffinden to react in that way, could maybe get a fine but talk of a ban seems extreme and the suggestion of police involvement is ridiculous.

A very stupid situation.

If the world was a right and decent place.  The fan would apologise for his stupidity, Tai would apologise to the fan for his over reaction and make a donation to a Charity of some sort.

It's all being blown out of proportion due to 2 acts of idiocy??

Why is police involvement ridiculous?

It is a potential assault, which if it had happened in the street would involve the Police

Face planting someone like that, can have disastrous consequences. A man in the US was recently paralysed for life after a cop (who is now facing jail time) used a similar move on him. A very stupid and dangerous thing to do...

I'm not a Tai hater, but I can't condone that.

In the Johnny Bairstow incident, the protester was carried from the field of play and dropped into the grass beyond the boundary. He was fully aware of what was going on throughout, and would have been able to prepare himself for the short drop onto the grass.

Sneaking up behind someone and upending them onto a hard surface in that manner was a stupid and dangerous thing to do. The fan was an idiot but the situation didn't warrant it in my opinion. The victim was a big old unit and would have landed heavily, with little time to react to the situation before hitting the deck.

It looked more an act of aggression on Tai's part than containment to me.

The incident from another view. You clearly see how the man waves his arns aaround after he got up. There is no way that that man has a broken arm.9

Looks worse from this angle. Laughing about it as well.. No need for big spuds,  just let the security deal with it.
