British GP Cardiff Saturday 2nd September

Recommended Posts

I drive in early Saturday and then drive out Saturday evening. Took the lad and his school mate, we had packed lunches. No need to buy food, parked the car all day for £14, drank free monster in the fanzone ( not the best drink I have to say). So it can be done on a budget.

Is belle vue even big enough to hold the crowds that Cardiff attracts? Yes they don’t fill the stadium however is belle vue big enough to hold the same amount of people as who were there on Saturday.

With temporary stands on bend 3-4 about 8500 max. That’s similar to some gp’s this year.

Chris Morton told the Nuneaton Speedway Supporters Club meeting a while back, that it's not adding the temporary stands that is the problem. It's ensuring that the increased number of people could evacuate the stadium safely in the event of an emergency.

I t will repeat what i said last year. How do you get the twenty thousand that turned  up in cardiff on saturday into  manchester that holds about 8000, Why do we want to every year want to move it to a venue miles out from any facilities?  And as for people thinking cardiff is expensive do you really think london would be cheaper. Ive been 17 times and will be back next year, Cardiff is a great day out and if you dont agree dont go

Presumably the stadium, with temporary stands in use, was approved as safe in 2016 for the world team championship on 2016.

I'm not at all familiar with Ice Hockey... what are the similarities?

The crossover between the fan bases for starters, especially in the Midlands, and places like Swindon, Manchester and Sheffield. Scotland too. People watch speedway in the summer and hockey in the winter.

As far I can see, the only similarity between speedway and cricket is that matches can be washed out.

Nail hit firmly on the head... This country is f''ed. I decided this year to do the full week in Poland for the SWC over a weekend in Cardiff, because it was a similar price (despite the length difference) Poland is way more interesting and the racing/atmosphere is was better over there anyway... But mainly the price is what swayed it for me.

Are you sure about that? The qualifying rounds were dead with some of the worst speedway you're likely to see anywhere in the world... The final on the other hand, you won't see better.

You should have just done the final, then you could have done both!

Elf and safety unfortunately take over everywhere,  alsorts of rules in place to comply with increased crowds, and common sense goes out of the window

Aye... The semis didn't have the best racing (Although it's better than most the cr@p we watch here, it was absolutely nowhere near 'some of the worst speedway you're likely to see anywhere in the world' like you say) but the whole atmosphere, event just was second to none... Poland is such a magical country, not just speedway wise... Seeing the sights of Wroclaw was something to behold and the evenings on the centre square was beautiful. Weather was perfect also and the trips to Auschwitz and the salt mines near Krakow were once in a life time...

Cardiff... I've been there, done that and it's lost its novelty with me and many others it seems... Nothing special anymore. Although I'd still rather it was held there over Manchester, that would be a logistical nightmare... Bad public transport to and around the stadium, no parking, no hotels nearby (other than the tiny Diamond lodge, which is ideal for Belle Vue meetings but not big events...) and that's not even mentioning the inappropriate venue for such an event... (VENUE not track) No thank you.

When you put it like that it's hard to resist, I've done Auschwitz, the salt mines and Krakow... well worth spending time at... just a shame about those first 3 events when we know what the Wroclaw track can serve up

But apart from probably the best world cup final in history, the emotive attractions, the lovely weather, the beautiful sights and architecture and the cheap prices what have the Poles ever done for us? :D

Not conversant with H&S rules, what changes have taken place since BV hosted the 2016 world team that would not allow the temporary stand?

Not sure if it has been mentioned or even if this is the right place, apologies if not, but feel its prudent to share.

Wales Online has just release a story of a fan that's been missing since the GP with links to report any information to the Police etc
