Championship Averages

Recommended Posts

Was looking at a post on the "general chat" but I only float around the championship and premier pages and feel a lot of knowledgeable people do too.

So if after reading the rulebook and seeing what elegible meetings affect the riders averages and what meetings don't it seems madness to me that this season a rider could compete in up to 20 meetings that don't count and only 16 meetings that do.

BSN league.

4 league matches 2 semis and 2 finals

KOC 2 Quarter, 2 semis 2 finals

Playoffs 4 matches and 2 for finals

And the ones that count.

8 home and away league matches??

Surely I'm not the only one who thinks this is crazy.

They used to count, but certain clubs used the premier trophy or whatever it's called to blood assessed riders to get new averages and strengthen once the league started. Now that assessed riders can't go below a 4 no sure it's still required tbh especially with so few league meetings now

Here's an example of the ludicrous situation we currently find ourselves in. Poole are clearly the strongest team in the Championship yet their green sheet averages as a team show them as being lower (39.87) than Berwick (40.77) and Edinburgh (40.82)! And Plymouth (41.27) has the highest combined average!!

It would make things simpler if all meetings (except Challenges) counted towards averages.

Definition of average from the Oxford dictionary.

"a number expressing the central or typical value in a set of data, in particular the mode, median, or (most commonly) the mean, which is calculated by dividing the sum of the values in the set by their number."

But in British speedway we remove up to 52.63% of the potential data to calculate our averages

Lack of fixtures keeping our {Berwick} average quite high. We have had 3 meetings this month so should drop a little bit

To save creating a separate thread, if you could replace the current average system what would you change it with?

I like the rolling averages fine, but maybe the total league matches ridden should be the number used, for this season it would be a 16 match rolling ave in the Championship for example.
