Riding abroad broadens a rider's experience and is generally beneficial. I remember the Test Matches down under whereby many riders came back to these shores a better more complete rider. It certainly didn't harm Gordon Kennett who toured Australia in 1975/76 and he proved inspirational when riding for White City after a career spent on smalll tracks up to that point. Yeh for sure but the riders Iam referring to are novices who when put in to a champ team struggle to beat their opposites and missing domestic fixtures just to race against others of similar std does nothing for them other than cost money and I’ve witnessed a couple of said riders this season a couldn’t beat an egg .Someone mentioned Gordon Kennett would I be correct in thinking he was already a proven performer hl before going down under in the close season with no loss to domestic speedway

And I'd reiterate that they almost certainly benefitted from their experiences. What would improve matters would be a Championship set up that made it easier for the likes of Trigger and Hagon to step up from the NDL.

As someone who loves the NDL & Champ and would like nothing better than to see young British riders progress I cannot understand why the Thompson Twins never get European experience. Is it a case of their face doesn't fit or something else? It appears to have benefited other riders of a similar age.
Toady
My issue is riders of novice std missing league or other domestic meetings not with riding abroad per say.just to be clear

Gordon was a good second heat leader at Cowley in 1975 but tended to struggle on bigger tracks but his Aussie experience benefitted him enormously when he moved with the rest of the "Rebels" to the vast White City in 1976 and he became a complete all rounder and as they say the rest is history. Gordon has been quoted at saying that Martin Dugard (another small track specialist) would have benefited with a trip down under. Toady
A few years ago I would have disagreed with that but now with the few teams that remain the crowd levels I think it’s the best from what I have seen but will there be enough rider of that std to go round? SteveLyric2
Standard and points limit will be calculated on a 'one league' basis, imo, IF those clubs/stadia rumoured to be closing for speedway do so!? Judging by the 'success' of the IOW meetings, it is increasingly clear that the sports popularity (and costs) do not require the 'top' riders!!!!!!
