it’s a poor advert for the sport and means taking airtime away from other tracks where the away team is able to challenge.  it’s my nearest premier league track now but after a handful of less than entertaining visits down the years i’ve given up going

The away team is able to  challenge if they have riders who know how to use the throttle. Those who only know the open position of the throttle will be shown up. I read an article by Mark Loram. In it he said, riding and controlling the bike, it was all 100% about throttle control. Riding at Momore every week did no harm to World champions Ole Olsen, Sam Ermolenko And Tai Woffinden. Each to their own eh ? Also you should perhaps remember the phrase live and let live.

Couldn't agree more with every word of this post. I spent a thoroughly enjoyable day, attending the BV Wolves match at midday and then pulling in Panthers v Lions later in the evening, 2 fantastic Speedway matches! I then sat down yesterday evening to watch the Wolves v BV match while dipping into this thread to see what people were saying and I must say it was a thoroughly depressing read, everything from people slagging the Tennis off to the usual slating of the Monmore track. If you didn't enjoy that Speedway match, you don't like Speedway and I question what the hell people like that are even doing on this forum.

In  other news... I wonder if Wolves find a new piece of land, and let's all hope they do, whether they'll try and replicate the Monmore track or go for a BV style shape, or maybe even a Leicester type hybrid. The "technical" track seems to be on the decline, especially in the top league and for me it's the technical track that makes British Speedway what it is, it's what's attracted riders to the UK in the past, those that have ambition to become better Speedway riders with ambition to become World Champion came to Britain to become better technical Speedway riders.

Totally agree with you, tracks like Monmore  were the reason all the top riders made our league the best in the world throughout the seventies alongside the likes of Hyde Road and Somerton Park there was a mix of different styles from big to small, rough, smooth etc, hence why riders stated to win a world title you need to hone your skills on the British tracks and the variety helped their skill set. Today i just think the modern day rocket ships have outgrown some of the more technical tracks yet as Emil has proven the top riders can adapt their skills today. I always remember the great Ivan Mauger saying when asked what was his favourite type of track, i dont have a favourite they are all there to be ridden.

Sorry there are some brain dead morons on here who obviously think speedway is about opening the throttle and no real skill

Monmore won’t give you fast flat out racing like a Peterborough or Belle Vue but I’ve seen some shocking meetings at Peterborough gate and go but hey it’s fast so that’s ok

You only had to watch riders like Loram or Darcy at tracks like Arena and Wolves and then see the same 2 riders at say Bydgoszcz a fast flat out track and these guys have the skill set to do both

Those who say Monmore is boring just don’t have a clue about our sport … my home track Ipswich has worse racing than Wolves but is getting better

The sport is in a low place so let’s get behind the sport instead of slagging every little thing off

The racing was ok the other night only those with a grudge about wolves can’t see

Yep Mark was great at small tracks as was Ward yet both good on the big fast ones

Wolves often produces good racing but like anywhere you will have bad meetings there

I’ve been to Peterborough and watched Crump and Sullivan lead every race follow the leader … is that good?

I love watching artists on bikes those that can master all types of tracks and realise throttle control

it’s how you read it pal.

it’s a shame swindon closed down - ironically after they had taken the effort to make the track better for racing.  i’m no swindon fan though as i support the club where i’m from, ipswich.

my comments were never been anything other than about the speedway and the commentary.  both of which made it a poor spectacle in my opinion.

my wife was born in wolverhampton and her family are from there so i have no issue whatsoever with the people or wolves fans and hope a new site can be found where a quality circuit can be built.

riders will always struggle to adapt and find the set up for monmore as it’s a one off, even on the british circuit.  good meeting there are therefore few and far between.

But I'm not the only one who read it that way am I,you've received several replies who have slated that post and not one single person agrees with it .By the way being from Cirencester, everyone would presume you're a Swindon fan .

Excellent choice, but I gather you've not been to Workington yet? It's sublime.

Shows what can be done if you have the money and inclination. It would be interesting to know for Wolves and Peterborough fans about how much the actual construction work cost from scratch to put the venue up and running.Obviously though finding a site in the wide open spaces of Cumbria is much easier than finding a plot of land in the restricted areas of Wolverhampton.

Indeed. And given that the new Workington track is on the site of the training track, that has presumably simplified planning issues.

I'd guess if wolves do eventually get Thier own track, they will go much bigger then mommore.  Hopefully they do move, because the days of speedway alongside dogs is coming to and end and even if wolves get a reprieve then it won't be forever.

Sadly, I think you are 100% right. :(
