Edinburgh v Scunthorpe Championship 26/5/23

Recommended Posts

STELLAR MONARCHS: Richie Worrall (Guest), rider replacement for Paco Castagna, Kye Thomson, Lasse Fredriksen, Craig Cook (captain), Kyle Bickley, Jacob Hook.

ATTIS INSURANCE SCORPIONS: Ryan Douglas, Simon Lambert (capt.), Max Clegg, Jake Allen, Michael Palm Toft, Nathan Ablitt, Connor Mountain.

Josh back in, then out again, so Richie Worrall guests. Paco in Italy for GP qualifying round, so R/R for him. Another tough one for Monarchs methinks, but confidence should be high after getting their league campaign back on track at Birmingham.

Could be tight this one. A track Clegg will actually score points on. Mountain will be a trump car at reserve as scored very well form the main body last year with Leicester. Douglas in top form also.

Need everyone firing tonight as I don’t think R/R will get as much as paco would’ve but good stand in for Josh in Ritchie. Weather is all good sunny again not very often you get to say that so hopefully a home win and a good night of racing.

Funny Tom Brennan can ride for Glasgow tonight yet Paco cannot make Armadale when they're in the same SGP qualifier at Lonigo tomorrow.

Kye down for R/R makes Edinburgh vulnerable, especially if Douglas keeps winning races.

Maybe Max Clegg can get in amongst the points tonight

Tough one for the Scorpions with a 5 man team. Some heats will be very weak for us tonight.

Max is a former Monarch, sure he'll do better tonight, although it would be hard to be worse than he has been so far.

Nathan actually scored some points for Poole at Armadale last year 3+2

Maybe Tom has another set of bikes on the continent and just has to fly out, whereas I assume Paco would have to get his bikes from Armadale on Friday night to Lonigo on Saturday, which would not be possible?

But how many did Nathan score for the Colts at Armadale?

Would Paco, being Italian, not have bikes in aitsly already ?

A difficult start for Max as not riding for anyone else has made him play catch up. Nathans points were scored at no7.

The stats don't lie as Max has scored 4 in 15 rides & Nathan 2 in 13 rides from 4 meetings. Take in to account their 1st meeting, to adapt, was away at Berwick followed by 3 meetings against the top 2 sides of which 1 was at home was a difficult baptism of fire.

Tonight could be won for the Scorpions if Max can score 6 or 7 & the battle of the reserves. The no6's only face each other in heat 2 so it will be about what they can pick up in the other battles. The 2 no7's is interesting to say the least. It will take a combined team effort, though, so 40+ points would be good again but 46+ points would be better.

Here's hoping.

UP THE SCORPIONS.

It says on the updates that he was a non starter! Failed to turn up as they could only cover 1 ride?

Maybe a push bike he had as a kid. Or an old speedway frame and one of his dad's old upright engines :)

Pretty sure Paco doesn't trek bikes backwards and forwards between Italy and here every other week! He'll have bikes that he only uses here.

Doesn't really answer the question of why he he couldn't of ridden tonight.

Edinburgh was Nathan's best away track last season I think. Believe he beat James Sarjaent a couple of times on the way to 3+2 from 3 rides.

Isn't there usually practice the day before an fim event? Toms maybe not bothered with that whereas Paco is?

After the 4 meetings with the 2 new lads, feeling that we should have won at Berwick, got a result at home to Glasgow but lost the away leg & the way we performed on Wednesday, catching Poole a little off & coming away disappointed we did not get a win, I feel now, without Pickering & Cook but they have a specialist in R Worrall, this should be a great chance to get our first away league points.

Well that's because he doesn't ride in Italy every other week. As far as I know he only rides there for the Italian Championship and any other individual meetings he is in that happen to be staged in Italy (like tomorrow's SGP qualifier). Why on earth would he keep a separate set of bikes in Italy? If he could have ridden at Armadale tonight and still been able to ride in Italy tomorrow, then I'm sure he would have.

This has to be Scunthorpe's beat chance of an away win, Monarchs missing key riders & it's a track Max Clegg should do well on. If Edinburgh do lose its gonna be very tough to make the play-offs, despite Josh Pickering's suggestion they're aiming for top (not top 6).

I don't 100% but I would almost guarantee he has bikes that he only uses over here.

He certainly has different covers on the ones you see him using in meetings abroad.

Paco has bikes in the UK and Europe.
